Poll: Trump Approaches 60% Support in GOP Primary Field in Texas

Nearly six in ten likely Republican primary voters in Texas back former President Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, while he dominates Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, per a poll.

In the University of Houston/Texas Southern University poll conducted from October 6-18, Trump takes 58 percent of the response, placing him 44 points ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), his nearest competitor, at 14 percent.

Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) follows with six percent of the response. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy registers at three percent, as does former Vice President Mike Pence, who dropped out of the race on Saturday.

From there, Former Chris Christie (R-NJ) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) tie at two percent, while Ryan Binkley and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) each register at one percent. Just under one in ten voters are undecided.

In a hypothetical head-to-head match-up between Trump and DeSantis, Trump’s support grows to 66 percent while DeSantis climbs to 25 percent. Four percent of respondents would not vote, and five percent are undecided.

Trump draws support from those who initially chose Ramaswamy, Pence, or Scott in this scenario. Nearly 70 percent of Ramaswamy backers, 60 percent of Pence supporters, and 56 percent of Scott enthusiasts flock to Trump in a two-man race with DeSantis. Conversely, DeSantis pulls 66 percent of Haley’s support and 65 percent of Christie’s.

Moreover, the majority of respondents in each sub-demographic, ranging from sex to race to education, break for Trump over DeSantis in the hypothetical race. Some of Trump’s largest leads in this regard are among Latinos, those with a “very conservative” ideology, Millenials, and Generation Z.

Nearly four in five Latinos would support Trump over DeSantis. Similarly, 77 percent of those who are staunchly conservative would back Trump, as would 76 percent of likely Millennial and Generation

Christie is at 2% now, making my meme a lie technically. I will not update anyway.

For Texas, that would seem kind of low.

Texas has never really been the most Trump-friendly state. Especially because of Ted Cruz, a lot of people still are bitter with Trump over the fight with Cruz.

This is still getting pretty lop-sided, like Lilliputians ganging up and trying to tie Gulliver down, but not succeeding in any measurable way.

Trump still confounds them by shrugging off the attempted restrictions being placed upon him, and rising up anyway.

What are these little people going to DO? Just about everything they have tried so far has gone sideways, and Trump continues to have mounting support even from folks that have not much considered voting for a Republican.

But then, Trump continues to exist outside the normal bounds of what the Republican party has been for decades.

You have to understand how that world works.

DeSantis doesn’t make decisions. Nor Christie. Nor Haley.

Their campaign staff tells him what his or her decision is, and they are loyal to only one thing — their paychecks.

The current story du jour is “hang on, the party will never nominate a candidate convicted of a felony. Let the prosecutions proceed.”

So these primaries need to be focused on really just one thing . . . Calling at large delegates and informing them if they do not vote Trump, their Democrat opponent will get the win in 2024’s election, just a few months later. There will be no party elite control of the party’s decisions. They will be dictated by the voters. Or the elite will be removed in favor of Democrats.

See, the way this works is if such a maneuver is attempted, then MAGA voters will change their affiliation to Independent, and that means a vote for a Dem, or for RFK, presents no moral dilemma at all. The Swamp’s days are done. They people’s days are ascendant.

Can you elaborate on the "moral dilemma " part of your comment?

My brain must be befuddled today because I am not following at all. Must be Brain Fog! 😊

Not complex. GOP registered voter voting Dem.

But if registered Independent, that goes away.

The maneuver being to deny the top vote getter, Trump, the nomination — for any reason whatsoever.
