DeSantis: GOP Won’t Nominate Trump if He Is Convicted
Breitbart ^ | 2 Nov 2023 | JEFF POOR

Posted on 11/02/2023 10:45:51 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, said he would not support the GOP nominating former President Donald Trump if he is convicted.

“You did say, Governor, at that August debate when the question was put to the entire panel if Donald Trump is convicted, will you still — and he is the nominee, would you still support him?” co-host Willie Geist said. “And you raised your hand. You’re a lawyer. You served in the Navy. You were well-trained at the greatest schools. Do you really believe that a man who’s convicted of, say, attempting to overturn the 2020 election or taking nuclear secrets back to his beach club, do you actually still, as we sit here today, believe that person should be president?”

“So I signed a pledge, Willie and that pledge is what it is,” DeSantis replied. “Now, do I think somebody under those circumstances could get elected president? The answer is no. That will not happen. I think that Republican voters will understand that as we get closer to voting. But it is — it would be fatal in a general election, and I don’t think the party should — should nominate in that situation. However, you know, I signed the pledge. I’m a Republican. I don’t think it’s going to come to that, and I think we’ll be — we’ll get the job done like we need to, but the reality is I signed it, and that’s what I did.”

“So, you stand by that this morning?” Geist said.

Convicted of what?? Misposting invoices to the ledger, which is what he is being charged with in New York.

Or possession of documents he was fully empowered to have in his possession??

Or vague charges of conspiracy with people he had never met?

Missing the whole point here. Logic and justice don’t prevail here, corruption does. Trump could go to jail based upon crooked judges and biased juries? There may be a lane for a plan B.

Solid reasoning, though. The party’s not exactly in love with Trump and there is a possibility he could be convicted of one of the zillions of charges thrown at him.

If Trump isn’t on the ballot, DeSantis stands to be the odds-on heir apparent.

I’ll be writing in “DONALD J. TRUMP” no mater what the ballot presents.

“GOP Won’t Nominate Trump if He Is Convicted”

gee, ron, i thought we primary voters nominated the GOP Presidential candidate ... apparently not ...silly me ...

still, it’s nice to hear your REAL strategy outlined on one of the far left fascist propaganda media outlets, namely run as a latter day Quisling who approves of, and benefits from, the illegal fascist lawfare attacks on your own political enemy ... after all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, right ron?

We conservatives are so bad about attacking our own that I'll be surprised if we win any election going forward.

That's just it, I don't consider him "one of my own".

No matter what his stated positions, he's gotten in bed with Globalists, NeoCons, and NeverTrumpers to the tune of millions in a coordinated effort to get rid of a man that TOWERS above him, President Trump.

He's not "one of my own", DeSanctimonious is now my sworn enemy because of his choices, including lies against President Trump.

He will NEVER get my vote under any circumstances. He lined up with my enemies the Globalists and NeoCons.

At one time I thought he would be a good VP for President Trump, NO MORE.

He has no possible pathway to winning election in the general because there are too many Trump supporters that will not vote for this small man DeSanctimonious.

What a garbage answer. Who actually wants this guy to be the one who is supposed to fight the deep state? How about this as an answer, “What I think is that any President of the United States who has his political opponent arrested has lost all moral authority to lead this count”.

Took me a split second to think of a better answer than this fool did with his focus tested bull. I want to hear the Female Hillary (Nikki Haley) answer the same question. I bet it would be every bit as trashy.

No worries, there’s always write-in voting.

Not for DeSanctimonious there's not.

His deplorable decision-making has cooked his goose, especially his taking sides with the NeverTrumpers and hoping President Trump gets taken out by LawFare and then there is his out-and-out lying about President Trump and his accomplishments. There are not enough voters left that would vote for DeSanctimonious under any circumstances to get him the nomination.

He's Toast!

I see you have all checked-in with DeSantis Central to get your talking points today!

This guy just takes the premise of Joe Scarborough and runs with it. His supporters are more likely than not going to be voting for Kennedy come November 2024. Such is life. They can tell their raped daughters why they allowed the once great country to be destroyed by radicals. Not only allowed, supported.

Then, I guess that the GOP wants to loose. Oh, forgot, they gave us RINOmney, and our present collection of spineless pretenders. I wish DeSantis would continue being a superb governor and not listen to his obviously challenged advisors.

This Repuke isn’t “Conservative”. He changes his stripes depending on who he’s talking to. He just takes Scarborough’s premise and accepts it. Not someone who we should be relying on to save the Republic.
