DeSantis: GOP Won’t Nominate Trump if He Is Convicted
Breitbart ^ | 2 Nov 2023 | JEFF POOR

Posted on 11/02/2023 10:45:51 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, said he would not support the GOP nominating former President Donald Trump if he is convicted.

“You did say, Governor, at that August debate when the question was put to the entire panel if Donald Trump is convicted, will you still — and he is the nominee, would you still support him?” co-host Willie Geist said. “And you raised your hand. You’re a lawyer. You served in the Navy. You were well-trained at the greatest schools. Do you really believe that a man who’s convicted of, say, attempting to overturn the 2020 election or taking nuclear secrets back to his beach club, do you actually still, as we sit here today, believe that person should be president?”

“So I signed a pledge, Willie and that pledge is what it is,” DeSantis replied. “Now, do I think somebody under those circumstances could get elected president? The answer is no. That will not happen. I think that Republican voters will understand that as we get closer to voting. But it is — it would be fatal in a general election, and I don’t think the party should — should nominate in that situation. However, you know, I signed the pledge. I’m a Republican. I don’t think it’s going to come to that, and I think we’ll be — we’ll get the job done like we need to, but the reality is I signed it, and that’s what I did.”

“So, you stand by that this morning?” Geist said.

I was too. I do not support the toleration of democrat election interference even if it were to help whatever candidate I support. It’s UN-American.

I’m removing DeSantis off my tagline.

Might as well stay home, in that case. Makes no sense to leave home just to cast a meaningless write-in vote.

To each their own if that’s their prerogative.

Most people will understand that the non-Trump candidate will have zero chance to win, and many people will simply do a write in as a form of protest.

Many people will also simply sit at home and not vote. Not surprising.

An heir to what? A failed state? A totalitarian state? An heir to a catastrophe?

I got called by a AJC poll taker. She kept asking me who I would vote for if the leading candidate was “Convicted”. She offered DeSantis, I said I will write in Donald J Trump. She said Nikki Haley. I said I would write in Trump. She wanted me to let a reporter call me and talk to me. Of course that would be a huge setup. I told her absolutely not!!

This is EXACTLY what the Democrat/Communist Party so desperately wants ... and now they have an "inside guy" who desperately supports the same objective.

This is PRECISELY what the Democrat/Communist Party has been waiting for months to hear from a "player" in the GOP ... a level of support that money can't buy.

I have never been impressed with the intellect and political instincts of the far too many RINOS in the GOP, but I truly believed that Ron DeSantis was an intelligent man.
I am clearly wrong.

So now he’s hoping for a kangaroo court conviction? What a POS. What an ingrate.

We will vote for Trump, no matter what they do.

“An heir to what?”

The topic under discussion - the GOP nomination, if Trump is not the nominee.

“Most people will understand that the non-Trump candidate will have zero chance to win, and many people will simply do a write in as a form of protest.”

So it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy - e.g. Barry Bonds believes “I know I won’t hit a homerun, so I’m not going to try”.

Perhaps, but consider that most people that are honest with themselves will decide that the fix is in yet again, so there is no room for a self fulfilling prophecy.

The only question is, which number will be higher, the number of people who just sit it out, or the number of people who will write in who they believe should be on the ballot.

A lot of ifs and such. Will be a very interesting year ahead of us.

"I got called by a AJC poll taker."

LOL!! You must have been cracking up the whole time. Even though I changed my Republican registration to "no party," after January 6th, I still get spam texts and emails from people claiming to be Republicans. I block them, but then they send more crap via another number or email address, so I block them too. I also use Apple email's "rule" system to get their e-mails deleted before they end up in my junk folder. Thankfully, they don't call me personally. I got rid of my landline last year too, because the only calls I got were spam, and political pollsters. Never answered any of them. They would probably hang up on me anyway, once I started speaking my mind. Those polls are always biased, as most don't give you the opportunity to answer the questions the way you want. There are rarely any options to choose "other" and explain your reasons for that choice.

I guess it’s settled. The Rats will win in 2024 due to Republicans hating each other.

Yes I saw that. So why are Trump supporters acting like an angry mob toward their fellow Republicans? It doesn’t make sense unless they want Trump to lose.

Not many Republicans will vote for RFK. He’s right on vaccines, but wrong on everything else, like the climate change fraud and reparations.

This thread is chock full of Trump supporters saying they will stay home if they are disappointed. This crazy conflict is a sure recipe for a Rat win. Are Trump supporters sore winners?

“Are you trying to convince DeSantis supporters to sit at home on November 5, 2024?”

well, no. We don’t want them to WASTE their vote. JOIN US and give Trump the biggest victory he could get.
