"Thermodynamic reality defied!" Entropy rules thermodynamics. Yes, they can store energy in this manner. You much decrease the entropy of this system to extract energy. The only way to do this is inject energy into the system via heat and or electricity or perhaps unicorn farts.
ENTROPY RULES! The rules of thermodynamics can not be broken. Any chemist knows this.
