Bureaucracy at its finest /s Was it that the officers couldn’t GAF or did it relate to the prior issue? Kudos to the new investigator who actually did her job.
I don’t think this event can be blamed on “bureaucracy”. Here’s a few facts:
1. Jackson, Miss. population 143,000
2. Current Police chief Joseph Wade (black)
3. Previous Police chief James Davis (black)
4. 70% of force estimated to be black
5. Mayor: Chockwe Lumumba (black)
6. Poverty rate: 26.1%
7. Homicide rate: 14 times national rate
8. Average Income: $56,851
Most likely, James Davis, the apparent Police Chief at the time of Dexter Wades death, just didn’t GAF about 1 more black person dying from contact with HIS police department.
A “normal” human being would have got off his ass, set all other matters aside for a few minutes, and informed the family at least before burial in a paupers grave.
A “normal” and “caring” police chief would have got in his car and drove over to Dexter Wade’s mothers house and informed her. That’s not too much to ask.....in my opinion.
