Or..why don’t they do what the Russians did some years ago when Muslim terrorists took over a theater along with hostages? The Russians piped in a sleeping gas of some sort then, removed the hostages safely and shot all the terrorists while they were still unconscious. That should work in tunnels too.

Except that they killed numerous hostages because the concentration of the gas was not properly controlled.
