Well, Tesla (the scientist, not the car company) figured out wireless transmission of electricity over a hundred years ago. We could just do that and everyone could just charge their cars on the go with a simple antenna.
But then the power companies would have no way to meter usage and charge people for it, so we would have to turn power generation over to a government agency and make it a taxpayer-funded public service.
The envirowackos have already nixed this idea. It would screw up the bats from finding bugs, the whales would get lost, electric eels, well.... you know.
