Experts say 50 million miles of new power lines needed for green energy, and that may be impossible

The problem with that is the winds rarely blow at night (they are powered by the sun, after all) and the sun doesn’t shine at night. So you really have no “green” way to use pumped storage.

The greenies have made it very hard, nearly impossible, to build new pumped storage facilities. The permitting alone will take you 10-15 years.

It took almost EIGHTEEN years to permit the TransWest Express 732-mile transmission line that will run from Wyoming to California.

Besides the transmission and distribution grid upgrades needed, no one is talking about a crash program to build generation capacity. And wind and solar aren’t going to cut it, we need nuclear plants.

“They are trying to sign up landowners around here for solar farms. The biggest factor is proximity to existing electrical substations, so I don’t quite follow the need for all new lines.”

Our county allowed one to be built three or four years ago. The county then changed the zoning regulations so that another one will not be allowed. The solar farm did not live up to its promises and produces very little in the way of electricity. It’s now just an eyesore in the countryside. It would have been more economically productive if the land had just remained a hay field.

I think the long term plan is not to make more cars and power supply, but to make fewer people.

Nope, unlike digital, electrons aren’t compressible.

“lines”

miles x 200 not equal to lines.

I’m interested in how they plan on mining for the materials needed. I am assuming they will use electrical means to do this.

This is one of the very few articles or discussions from a non-Free Republic source that actually discusses what, for me, is the MAJOR issue with this FORCED transition to electric vehicles (EV).

In the absence of this this critical and vital part of this transition to electric vehicles, one can only rationally conclude that the goal is NOT to reduce carbon emissions by "going electric" (which any thinking person immediately realizes, it is just shifting the energy generation burden from an individual ICE vehicle to a powerplant somewhere)

The larger, unspoken goal, is that by shifting the "CO2 burden from millions of individual ICE vehicles whose "emissions" CANNOT be readily controlled by a centralized decision, to a larger, centralized facility whose performance and "emissions" CAN be readily controlled and thus, control downstream EV users by simply making energy unavailable to them.

The end result, is they wish to force people onto mass transportation by this method. They want to make driving so inconvenient that mass transportation becomes more viable. It is a logical extension of the stated goal of the Democrat Party (beginning with Obama who said it openly) that they want to make the cost of energy skyrocket, thus forcing people to the same end of not driving cars.

NOTE: This is no surprise to anyone who observes their conduct...they want to limit the ownership of guns by making it more difficult and expensive to locate and buy guns. When that didn't work, they began to formulate ways to attack the availability and cost of ammunition. When that didn't work, at the local levels, they began using lawfare against gun clubs, changing their zoning, etc. to force them out of business or make them impossible to join or use. It is the same mechanism, IMO, they are using to push their MANDATES to Electric Vehicles.

In these types of cases, the pattern is clear and undeniable. The Left does not wish to broadcast their goals and prospective methods to reach those goals, and thus, put the stick in the hornet's nest, which would make their tyrannical goals harder to meet.

A free society can only operate with visiblity. The tactics used by the Left to reach their goals with respect to energy production and use are deliberately kept in the shadows.

These are the tactics of tyrannical goverments. We have a tyrannical government. There can be no argument on this.

That is the ONLY rational explanation I can formulate to explain this deliberate obfuscation of goals and actions by the currrent administration and their Republican allies and co-conspirators.

And further, people (even well-meaning people) who are fully on-board with this transition to Electric Vehicles and the mandated forcing of citizens into this transition, are (wittingly or unwittingly) contributing to tyranny. In other words, like it or not, they are filling the role of Useful Idiots. (I do apologize for any perceived offense and I apologize for it, but in our country, this is the time for truth.)

"...The end result, is they wish to force people onto mass transportation by this method. They want to make driving so inconvenient that mass transportation becomes more viable..."

The downstream intended consequence is that these actions would - in turn - force people to ever-growing major cities, which are already under control of Leftist activists (i.e., the only people who run for public office).

Destroy suburban living and rural America and they'll be able to control much more of the population than today.

The title is wrong.

It is not a matter of whether or not the additions to the grid for “green energy” are “possible”, or “impossible.

They are UNNECESSARY.

The ONLY places wind or solar are financially efficient is in single use situations, not in serving the grid. They are both expensive sources for the grid, and requiring the grid to use them merely raises the costs for everyone on the grid.

If you can run your own home of business with wind or solar and without the grid, that’s fine. But that is the end of it in terms of anything that is “necessary”.

It’s only 280,000 miles to the MOON!.............

Are you suggesting we wire-up the moon, too? Won't the cabling snap when the earth & moon rotate? :)

I fully agree. It is this “15 Minute City” that the tyrannical Leftist a-holes are all abuzz about.

Anyone who has taken a Sociology course knows exactly the kind of people I am talking about, the starry-eyed true believers who want one plan for everyone.

In that categorization, there are both witting and unwitting types...

The unwitting types are all in because it is fun, trendy, and cool. But in the end, they will be just as much at fault as the “witting” ones.
