Why should the US “destroy” Iran?
First off, let’s assume the days of the old school neoGoons are gone, and we don’t illicit notions of ‘regime change’ but following up with Nation Building and Forever Wars, although you should probably never assume neocons are gone. Even still, Iran has a lot of good people in it, educated, and from what I understand, not overly radicalist like their leadership has been for the last 40+ years.
So without completely embracing non-interventionalism, all you really need to do is target their nuclear weapons production and assets, and perhaps a few more precision strikes that will assist any grassroots populist coup. But even these goals are much easier said than done and not without their own unintended consequences.
Not too long ago Iran was in open public revolt against the mullahocracy— including the national police forces joining them in the streets. There was little to no coverage of this— and this is after the payoff of billions in cash from obamaumao to prop up the mullahs- obamaumao being a Muslim and his embeds still at State and other three letters.
