Yes, if the feds just stopped spending all money but kept revenues coming in, then in about five years the national debt could be completely erased.

If even one year passed without any of the usual geyser of spending for any and all ridiculous things in the world and extending to interstellar space outside of our solar system (viz., Voyagers 1 and 2), which our government participates in, then a significant dent in our national debt could be erased.

But I don't think deficit hawks and austerity people, Trump even, are vocal enough about the tremendous BENEFITS that would immediately accrue were we to institute a single balanced budget this year.

It would be such a powerful signal to the stock market and the economy as a whole that a huge boom would follow over the next two years or more.

If more drastic (sic) budget cuts (say we only finance ONE SIDE of a war, not BOTH SIDES as we are now doing in Israel) of 30 percent or so, then, again, the powerful signal this would send would far exceed the dollar amounts saved and the amount of debt avoided.

We need to focus on the huge and almost immediate effects an austerity campaign would cause, and not be afraid of it.

On the contrary, we should embrace austerity. It would have huge salutary effects on our country, and right away.

Sadly, democrats will soon be voting with Rinos to get a speaker in place. They are all losing too much money without money flowing freely again
