Bolotnyy & Emanuel, 2019, "Why Do Women Earn Less Than Men? Evidence from Bus and Train Operators", (link)

Abstract

Female workers earn $0.89 for each male-worker dollar even in a unionized work place where tasks, wages, and promotion schedules are identical for men and women by design. We use administrative time card data on bus and train operators to show that the earnings gap can be explained by female operators taking, on average, 1.5 fewer hours of overtime and 1.3 more hours of unpaid time-off per week than male operators.Female operators, especiallythosewhohavedependents, pursuescheduleconventionality, predictability, and controllabilitymorethanmaleoperators.Analyzingtwopolicychanges,we demonstrate that while reducing schedule controllability can reduce the earnings gap, it can also make workers—particularly female workers—worse off.

In this study, where jobs, pay and promotions are gender neutral, on average women have lower take home pay because women are more likely to take more time of and work less overtime. This is only one study. It is of interest since it shows the issues are more complex than activist slogans and news headlines make it appear.

Women make up 20% of engineering graduates, but it’s been estimated that nearly 40% of women who earn engineering degrees either quit or never enter the profession.

Harvard Business Review

Seems to me that they demand to be paid for what men do; but are not willing to do what men do, to earn that pay. I am seeing that in a lot of young applicants, they want the Senior Engineer salary, but have neither the skills, nor the experience to justify their demand.

Not to worry ladies. With all the muslims you’re importing you won’t have to work. You won’t even be allowed to leave the house.

Well, I guess that ended well. Did they lock the door behind her?

If companies could pay women less, there would be no men employed. . .

. . . for about a week.

I don't have to tell you why.

LOL, she's the leader of the country, correct it. Or is she admitting to being helpless? Idiocy

Outside of the hotel and stinkly fish processing, what jobs does Iceland have?

There is no gender wage gap. The ones that take years off for having a kid and three days a week off for “mommy duties” think their career earnings should be the same as a guy who showed up to work every day the whole time. They get paid the same for the same work. What they really want is to be paid twice as much as a man so they can work half the time.

One could argue, quite successfully, that Oprah is a full-on demonstration of the fact that women have no wage gap.

Consider, Oprah is a black woman, allegedly the most oppressed group to walk the face of the earth. She formed her own production group (Oprah Productions) and did a series of made for TV programs, her own Talk show, then her own Network OWN, success as an actress, an author and even a Book Club.

She sacrificed being a wife and mother; she threw her life into her career, and was wildly successful. She made a choice. Nobody stopped her, there was no glass ceiling.

Funny, no one wants to talk about Oprah - because she shatters the narrative. You make choices, you make sacrifices - you don’t get to have everything. Doesn’t matte whether you are a man, or a woman; you make choices.

This virtue whiner better be careful. Companies like Google found the opposite to be true - men were being paid less for the same job.

They paid them about $10M to bury it and other companies quickly took a look at their own books.

We (men) can criticize all we want, but I would love to see the day when men take all of that money they have for prostitutes and strip bars, and spend it fighting against the bias and outright abuse their sons face in school.
