I was actually at the game. Ambulance came and the kid survived. Later explained as heart defect never noticed.
I don’t think this got noted much in period before 1980s. After that era, you’d see a comment on college basketball/football about every week or two. Maybe this problem always existed and news outlets only started talking about this in past 30 years.
I call BS, There was national TV and they morbidly loved such stories, also every local paper had and has a national section. Was common for most to even get 2 papers, the local rag and a national one like the W Compost or NT Slimes.
And if they were college or Professional level EVERYONE heard about it.
Such stories were indeed reported and presented nationally, I can recall papers all the way back into the 60’s and even at that the Internet was available from the mid 90’s until 2018 and we never saw this many stories about young athletes dying suddenly.
I hate blue jays
Len Bias died of a drug overdose. Nothing to do with his heart health.
Dead’s dead. And it was sudden. And it took follow up reporting to get the whole story. Something these stories lack. Nobody comes back a week later to see what the autopsy says.
