GAZA, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Two American hostages freed on Friday by the armed wing of Hamas were identified as Chicago-area residents Judith Tai Raanan and her daughter Natalie Shoshana Raanan, who Israel said were en route to a military base in central Israel to be reunited with family. ……..
Hamas has said it took about 200 hostages during a deadly Oct. 7 rampage carried out from the Gaza Strip on communities and military bases in southern Israel, part of the bloodiest attack on the country since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.
The Iranian-backed militia has said 50 more captives are held by other armed groups in the coastal Palestinian enclave. It said more than 20 hostages have been killed by Israeli air strikes, but has not given any further details.

Those two were relatives of an MSNBC host who announced it on air. Maybe a PR move or maybe State Dept or IDF had a hand in their release.
Correct. They release two as a gesture and expect a gesture in return. They want to trade hostages, it should be for humanitarian aid. Humanitarian for Humanitarian. Not hostages for peace.
I am glad they are alive and coming home. I pray more will soon. But I told my wife, sad as it is - and I don’t think Israel can openly say this - but they have to proceed as if every kidnap victim is already dead. Otherwise Hamas will play this game for weeks and months and either use it to regroup or hope that they can turn the sympathies their way in the interval.

The International Red Cross confirmed that the two were released.
Israeli media identified them as Judith Raanan, 59, and Natalie Raanan, 17, who are dual Israeli-American citizens. Authorities have notified their family of their pending return to Israel via Egypt.
Hamas reportedly freed the pair due to the mother’s declining health.

I slightly disagree. Dem VOTERS will NEVER learn (with rare exceptions). The politicians on the left have learned -- and they are on the other side.
The US announced special forces units are in Israel to help with rescue operations. A public announcement like that has never happened before. The US has two carrier groups building up off the coast of Gaza, when it is rare for the US to have two carrier groups in the Mediterranean. This could be the first time Israel and the US fight alongside each other, what every nation in the Middle East wants to avoid.
What this might accomplish is slowing down direct US involvement in Gaza and supposedly put some pressure on Israel. The more US and foreign hostages are released, the less US special forces have reason to go into Gaza. It also makes Qatar look a little better as a mediator.
In my mind none of this matters. Israel will act regardless of outside political maneuvering or what the press reports.
