You are innocent until proven guilty. From the linked article:

Aside from the paltry number of trials in the federal system, states including Pennsylvania, Texas and New York have trial rates of less than 3%. In Santa Cruz County, Ariz., there were no trials from 2010 to 2012, the report said.

The prevalence of plea bargaining exploded in the last several decades as a way to save money and time and to promote more certainty in outcomes. But the practice comes with “a very high cost,” said Lucian Dervan, a professor at Belmont University College of Law in Nashville.

Pleas can allow police and government misconduct to go unchecked, because mistakes and misbehavior often only emerge after defense attorneys gain access to witness interviews and other materials, with which they can test the strength of a government case before trial.

The deals also exacerbate racial inequality, with Black defendants more often subject to prosecutors’ stacking of multiple charges in drug and gun cases. Altogether, defendants face stiffer punishments for going to trial — known as a trial penalty — that can add seven to nine years or more to their sentence.

But most stark in the report is research that cites innocent defendants who agree to falsely plead guilty, sometimes on the advice of their own lawyers. An Innocence Project database of exonerations includes dozens of people who falsely pleaded guilty.

“This isn’t just having an effect on those individuals,” said Dervan, who co-chaired the task force. “It’s having an effect on the entire community and the safety of the entire community.”

Overhauling the justice system will be no easy task — since it could require changes to laws and ethics rules in many U.S. states. “It’s past time to start that work,” said Dervan, who recently created the Plea Bargaining Institute to generate and share research.

ABA task force makes 14 recommendations, including the need to collect and analyze data on plea bargains; the need to give defendants access to discovery materials before they enter a plea; and the need to eliminate bail requirements or pretrial detention when they’re used to coerce someone into pleading guilty.

The report also presses prosecutors and judges not to demand or accept plea deals where defendants waive essential legal rights, such as the right to appeal and receive exculpatory information; and the right to make future claims for release for reasons of terminal illness.

It is fine with this for people like Sydney Powell who spread lies and misinformation and gave people false hope about the 2020 election, she should have known better

Powell got ahead of her skis but that is not a crime, except in totalitarian states and the Biden regime.

Was what Sydney Powell did a crime ?? That’s debatable, what she did do was spread lies and half-truths like the Kraken, server farms getting raided in Europe, etc. and she knew they were lies when she was telling them.

She gave people false hope about the 2020 election being overturned, the lies she told have ruined any search for the real truth to the stolen election of 2020, when solid information about stolen elections gets published, it’s immediately dismissed as another example of election deniers spreading lies and things like what Sydney Powell did gets brought up as justification for dismissing the claims.

Sydney Powell and many others by telling those lies, got people to donate over 250 million dollars immediately after the 2020 election to fight for election integrity, much of that money has not gone for it’s stated goal, it’s gone into legal fees defending those who knowingly lied to everyone.

The so called “fake electors” were actually second slates of electors who believe something was wrong with vote. Perfectly legal. And the Dems have done this themselves. Every Blue state Congress critter challenged the election results in 2016.

It is evidence that validates a coerced confession, not the fact that a claim is made. Take General Flynn, for example.

I agree with you there. I hope we are both wrong about that, but at this point it looks bad.

and she knew they were lies when she was telling them.

That sounds like your opinion, not a fact. Careful you don't start telling your own lies.

Sydney Powell is not a stupid person, she did things that were stupid, she got caught up in the hysteria post-2020 election.

If she really believed the Kraken was real and a server farm in Europe was raided to bring home the evidence to release the Kraken, then she was and is a stupid person.

The sad part is a lot of people bought into her lies along with many other people involved with her, the people who bought into the lies donated over 250 million dollars to fund a fight that had no chance of winning and was based on lies at the time they were told.

The 250 million dollars could have funded a lot of voter registration drives around the country, where it’s legal, it could have funded ballot harvesting operations, it could have funded lawsuits on removing dead people and otherwise ineligible voters from voter rolls as required by law, any number of things, it went to legal fees instead and have done nothing to fund voter integrity issues.

That’s the really sad part, Sydney Powell is an adult she has to live with her actions, all the people who gave the RNC money post-2020 election did so because they believed in a cause that was based on lies.

Is it a crime to say an election was stolen or to even lie about it for that matter? The real outrage is that Powell and the other 17 defendants in this case are being charged at all. It is an attack on free speech and civil liberties by a highly partisan COUNTY AG. As for the "hysteria" post-2020 election, there is nothing wrong with investigating the widespread evidence of fraud and assigning accountability. The majority of the American people believe fraud was committed.

Have you watched 2,000 Mules? Do you believe the 2020 election was stolen?

Trump was the only incumbent President in history to receive more votes the second time and lose. Trump received 11 million more votes in 2020, a 17% increase. The election was stolen. Joe Biden is an illegitimate President.

Re: 91 - good post.

And what has President Trump and his surrogates proposed and advocated for at the state level to reduce the chance of election and voter fraud?

I’m talking SPECIFIC actions.

Crickets.

I don’t know how you can read what I posted about Sydney Powell and come to your conclusion about what I said.

Was it smart or stupid of Sydney Powell to talk about the Kraken getting released and Server Farms in Europe getting raided to bring home the evidence.

Where did the 250 million go that came primarily from Trump supporters, it was supposed to go to election integrity cases.

It’s absolutely fine to investigate election fraud issues, if you want to have any credibility at all, what you don’t do is talk about a Kraken getting released, European Server Farms getting raided, Chinese Hackers rigging machines and you have all the evidence to prove it and then not show the evidence, drones flying around polling places detecting security breaches, etc...

Ask yourself, of all the election integrity issues that have been fought over in court, how many have been successful.

The answer is ZERO.

At some point you would think people would wise up and realize the current strategy is not working and try something different.

That’s exactly right, this thread shows the real issue, any talk about issues you mentioned immediately gets met with accusations you are a RINO, you have Trump, you believe Biden got 81 million votes, it gets frustrating at times.

To my knowledge I’ve not heard a single concrete proposal coming from anyone in the RNC or Trump team to combat election fraud. The only things I hear are, everyone drop out, send us money and endless petty insults about other Republican candidates.

They get what they deserve the next time an election gets stolen.

Well, to add to that….

Friend was in an accident…..rear ended and got hurt pretty bad…required some surgery….got a lawyer….both he and other driver gave their statements, police report, etc….some haggling over the check, but otherwise, case closed…..NOPE

Went on for months and months and months….one lawyer sending paperwork back to the other….seemingly no reason….one could argue that it was all one big money laundering operation.

My friends lawyer and insurance company lawyer going back and forth to take money from the insurance company.

Chesebro is a lawyer himself. If he had a spine, he’d continue to resist cooperating. There’s more at stake than just his case. I understand him wanting to save his own skin no matter the cost to our Republic, but to me he’s another AWOL deserter. IMHO.

————————————————————————

Well, I agree with your point but that’s easy to say from where you’re sitting. .

It’s going to be interesting what the details of his agreement are.

A felony conviction would mean that he should probably get disbarred. No job for him anymore.

If that doesn’t happen or Willis Is protecting him from that, then something really stinks.

This is different than Powell’s.

As for those that want to run their mouths about the Kraken…read up on Eastman’s disbarment trail in California. He is 100% dropping evidence of crimes about the election. The prosecutor is objecting to all of it and the judge is sustaining all of them.

Yeah.

And the app. $250 million - never did hear much more about that. There’s a lot of gullible people, apparently.
