One thing Gaetz accomplished was not only to publicly exposed the individuals in the party who put politics and emotions above conservative principles; he also publicly exposed the level of contempt for conservatives and conservative principles that is persistent in the GOP.

OK, that’s fine and dandy. Now explain to me how that really helps with anything. All it did was make the Republicans look foolish and aimless. Tell me how this makes any moderate more likely to vote Republican. And before you say “moderates don’t matter, they aren’t ideologically pure enough” think about how many elections you will win with 25 or 30% of the vote. Principles are fine, but you can’t make policy unless you win elections.
