Moments after thousands of pro-Palestinian protestors descended on the US embassy in Lebanon and set fire, military members unleashed gas and smoke to push them back.
The protests in the Middle East come after a blast at a hospital in Gaza that Hamas claims killed at least 500 people sparked widespread outrage.
Iran-backed Hezbollah, which fought a war with Israel in 2006, called for a day of protest in Beirut on Tuesday in response to the attack.
Thousands of Lebanese protesters, some waving Palestinian flags, gathered late into Tuesday night outside the US embassy in response to the incident.
Video shows the protestor scaling a barb-wire-topped fence to replace a US flag with a Palestinian version. A fire was also set near the complex. Later, footage showed gas being sprayed at the protestors to push them back.
DailyMail.com has reached out to the State Department for comment on the situation. It's unclear if any protestors have breached the perimeter fence or if any embassy personnel have been hurt.

They are at NATO base as well tens of thousands
I saw a few other reports that said 100’s not thousands of protestors.
Wow - it’s 1979 all over again …
Good YouTube channel - thanks
Because there’s only a handful of them.
I don’t think it would be prudent to do that when your enemy can storm your position.
Shades of November 1979 all over again.
Yup, and they’ll take 1,500 US hostages, kill a few every week on video, hold the rest until November next year, and FJB will get 115,000,000 ballots cast for him.
