Top Israeli official admits mistake in thinking Hamas was conflict shy

A week after a deadly attack that took Israel by surprise, the chair of Israel’s National Security Council said Saturday that he made a mistake when he previously said that Palestinian group Hamas had been “deterred."

"I made a mistake when I said Hamas was deterred after Operation Guardian of the Walls," Tzachi Hanegbi told a press conference, referring to Israel's Gaza attacks in 2021.

The setback Israel suffered on Oct. 7 “reflects the mistakes made in all assessments over the past years and especially in recent times, from which we thought Hamas, which was hit hard in the operation Guardian of the Walls, had learned its lessons," he added.

Hanegbi added that Israel dealt a heavy blow to Islamic Jihad in Operation Shield and Arrow this May when it asked Hamas for support but Hamas declined.

"This was one of the reasons why the Israelis thought Hamas was afraid of entering into conflict," he explained.

Denying allegations that Egyptian officials warned Israel that Hamas would attack, Hanegbi said: "I did not receive such a warning, nor did the head of Mossad or the prime minister. They did not contact anyone about this issue. This is fake news that not only we but also the Egyptians deny."

On the Israelis now held by Hamas, Hanegbi said that the government "gives importance to the issue of their return to the country" but that there have been no negotiations on this issue so far.

Islam has never been conflict shy. They may lie low for a while but they’re waiting and watching for a weakness.

https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/16955 This is a link to a free book on Gutenberg.org, three translations by 3 Imams of the Holy Quran side by side.

Obviously the security head has not read a true translation.

Everyone should read a true translation for a better understanding of what has and what will or may happen.

The problem is that when the “leaders of the free world” broadcast that there will be no consequences for bad behavior and in fact you will be richly rewarded with $$$$$$$ in the meantime. They may be risk averse, but it was sort of a setup. No one thought their would be consequences until everyone saw what a world without consequences looks like - one where there are lots of consequences for the innocent.

Just before the World Trade Center murders the science fiction writer Spider Robinson wrote in an opinion column that right wing wackos were spreading rumors about the violent intentions of Muslim terrorists. He made a plea for how peaceful they were despite the right wingers’ myths and finished up with “Do they sound like they’re planning terrorist destruction in the United States? Not to me.”

Then 9/11.

Just a liberal who has been mugged. Before that I’m sure he was of the mis-guided, Leftist opinion that the jihadis were just misunderstood and are really nice people.
