Yes, there is a significant number of representatives that want McCarthy. Jordan has a couple days to sort this out. Otherwise, Republicans will have to find a compromise candidate, which doesn't appear obvious.
Maybe a new house rule, if no speaker chosen in x days, speakership goes to the senior member of the party until such time as a member gets sufficient votes. (And I write this without knowing who the senior member is.)

Yes, Jordan would be the best pick. If he can't muster the votes, then yes, we might end up with McCarthy again, or if enough RINOs defect, we might end up with Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker. Those Republicans are part of the uniparty. While we do have a two party system in the US, the two real parties are not Democrat and Republican. Here they are:
(1) Marxist/leftist party that includes all Democrats and about half of Republicans who serve as “loyal opposition”; and
(2) Constitutional/conservative party that includes about the other half of Republicans.
The %s for the Republicans may be a bit off but I suspect it is close.
