Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is now signaling that he supports Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as the next Speaker of the House. As we reported just under two weeks ago, McCarthy was ousted by House members in a Motion to Vacate by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). As my colleague, Ward Clark wrote on Friday, Jordan defeated Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) to secure the nomination:
In an earlier vote, Speaker candidate and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) won the nomination but then failed to secure enough votes to guarantee a majority on the House floor, ultimately resulting in his decision to withdraw from the race.
Jordan won the vote against Scott by a margin of 124-81, meaning that not all lawmakers were present for the vote. [...]
....[T]he House of Representatives has adjourned; no further votes will be taken today. As of this writing, the final vote has not been scheduled.
McCarthy's words of support for Jordan came during an interview on the “Cats and Cosby” radio show with host John Catsimatidis.

He said that he "support[s] Jim Jordan fully, Jim was a great ally to me. He worked hard. We came into Congress together." McCarthy looked toward the vote next week, noting that 65 votes are still needed for Jordan to cross the 217 threshold:
We’ve got some people not there yet. We just get together, work a little longer and we can have a new Speaker in Jim Jordan next week.
The report on his comments mentioned that he shared some shorthand on what the secret ballot voting can be compared to:
The former Speaker referenced Friday’s secret ballot vote, calling it what the public “would think is the primary … inside the conference.”
In the wake of McCarthy yielding the Speaker's gavel, Jordan received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
We'll keep you posted on when a vote for Speaker is scheduled in the coming days.
The majority of Republicans in Congress are Democrats.
NONE of the Democrats in Congress are Republicans.
If that happens, the GOP will be home extinct like the Whigs.
Why would anyone, at that point, vote for any Republican when they can just vote for a real Democrat instead?
Become
I don’t think the Party will disappear overnight, but undoubtedly signing up for a fusion Congress would be disastrous. That said I think that that is where we are headed.
The idea that discipline is subordinate to individual beliefs is a noble one in the abstract. But in politics it can be an invitation to anarchy and that’s where we are. Swing district congressmen* will choose between a MAGA speaker or no Congress or a Rep/Dem compromise. The third option is probably the most attractive one for them.
* Some National Security and Defense committee types will vote against any anti-Ukraine speaker nominee, even those congressmen who aren’t in close races. E.g., Mike Rogers.
Why are they always in recess?
Oh bull
Re: 46 - Well, then. Okay!
Not.
In my view, that's a resume enhancer.
LOL, I'm available, but not really. Many moons ago, I was an ADA officer: Leader for 3 platoons in Germany, and a Battery Commander at Fort Bliss. Strove to be a leader like Sam Damon, but fell short.
The reason I jest is that I'm currently involved in a financial investigation at the company I work for. We have a resort in Georgia that committed numerous frauds, and my team has uncovered approximately $10 million in losses.
The negative on my ledger is I would not function well in Congress, because I don't suffer fools gladly.
On the positive side, I made numerous friends in Germany, during the 4 years I was stationed there. At that time, I spoke German with near fluency, and was awarded a seat at the stammtisch at the local gasthaus. My advocacy for Ronalc Reagan with my neighbors was done entirely in German.
Ok, ok, time to remove my tongue from my cheek...lol.
McCarthy, McHenry, and Scalise are all for him. What’s going on with Rogers and his crowd?
You can’t keep saying NO to every possible nominee. In other words, it’s futile to find the perfect Speaker candidate. By all indicators, Jim Jordan looks to be the most acceptable with the most realistic possibility of winning among the batch.
It is a high bar to meet, as you have personally, but not a high bar for a Speaker candidate, simply because so many members of the House do fit the bill :)
I’m just glad they’re coalescing around Jordan. RINOs get weak in the knees when the vote isn’t a secret ballot.
Color me very skeptical. I think the guy is a combination of strengths and weaknesses that should never ever be within spitting distance of the presidency.
“Today we have thousands of military in the Middle East hot zone…”
Excuse me, Biden is CIC, not the Speaker.
As noted previously you don’t get what’s going on.
What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
Get a clue. 😏
Agree. Skeptical. Easily could be McCarthy 2.0.
