A ‘ring of fire’ eclipse is passing through San Antonio this weekend

San Antonio is at the center of an astronomical event taking place on Saturday, October 14.

The annular eclipse, often referred to as the “Ring of Fire,” takes about an hour and a half, as it goes from the partial phase, followed by a mesmerizing four-minute display of the sun forming a radiant ring, to being surrounded by darkness. The eclipse then gradually transitions back to a partial phase.

At 10:23 a.m., a partial eclipse will begin as the moon passes between the Earth and the sun. The burning star will transform into a thin ring of fire at 11:52 a.m., reaching peak annularity at 11:54 a.m. and lasting for four minutes.

“That’s an annular eclipse because annulus is a fancy word for donut,” Angela Speck, professor and chair in the UTSA Department of Physics and Astronomy, explained.

The entirety of the eclipse will end at 1:33 p.m.

“It’s hard to convey just how amazing it is to experience an eclipse,” Speck said. “One thing is that it’s not just visual. In fact, one of the coolest things to do is to find a tree. Stand by the tree and look at the shadow underneath because all of the little gaps between the leaves behave like holes. So, you get lots and lots of images of the sun."

“I’m here in the path, got glasses. Lots of viewing parties all over!”

I’m in the path also but cloudy here on TX coast. Hope clouds break up soon. If not can at least watch online.
Watch party in park about 10 minutes from me but will probably just watch from my drive way. Have glasses and other gear.

Kerrville? Fredericksburg? San Antonio?

San Antonio and Kerrville will see a total eclipse for 3-4 minutes. Fredericksburg for about 1 minute, it's right on the edge of the eclipse path.

Total disappointment!! Clouds cover most of the San Antonio area. It is now 10:45 and the sunlight is diffused Reminds me of the smoke from the Mexican forest fires a few years back

Thanks. The moon’s shadow follows I-10 more or less. Moon’s shadow? Shame that Cat Stevens joined the jihad.

Outside the totality zone the experience is quite a bit more lackluster. But I did view it from Dallas/ Fort Worth area and the effect was eerie. The intensity of the sunlight was remarkably dimmed and I could see crescents all over the ground through the small openings and tree branches. Shadows were also sharper as the sun’s rays came from a smaller point. neat experience..

Can’t wait for the total eclipse next April which will be much closer to me.

Sorry to hear that. The clouds worked in my favor and I got a perfect view. My glasses weren’t strong enough to view directly, but the variable thickness clouds worked like a neutral density filter, and a cloud of just the right thickness passed over the eclipse right at maximum shadow, so I was able to get a perfect eyeball view. Ordering eclipse glasses now for next April’s total eclipse.

KENS-TV had a live view on YouTube with professional equipment, so their viewers had a better view.

Results of the “ring of fire” test.
WEF: Our test of lowering the earth’s temperature has been a success.
We archived a temporary 2% reduction in solar energy. Our next test will archived a 5% reduction and will last for several months.

This will result in several billions of people losing their lives due to starvation as crops will fail but it will result in a better environment for the survivors such as ourselves.

We have put aside the best food we need and have our private planes and expensive gas powered cars and yachts to use. We will soon be moving to our safe retreats for the next phase of the test.

We would like to thank Bill Gates for his support.
