It is surprising to me that a major corporation would permit an executive employee to hold a political office, especially one with law making powers.

It is a blatant conflict of interest.

Every company I ever worked for had this very stringent rule.

Very few exceptions. Every year I had to fill out a form informing the company of any office I might hold outside of work.

I knew of only one exception that was permitted. An employee was permitted to hold a township trustee office in an area which the company had no interest.

As an aside the employee was eventually fired after is was found out that he was putting his company phone number on his township trustee business cards.
