I was thinking more Stalingrad, where the rubble made it easier for the Soviets to defend.
Combat in urban areas is a frightful battle rubble or no rubble.
In Hue during Vietnam the Marines were told not use any heavy weapons because the Military leadership did not want to damage to the city. The Marines took serous casualties trying to get at the NVA. In fact the assault had pretty much stalled.
It was only when the gloves were take off and the Marines could use of heavy weapons and artillery that they took back the city.
