I used to have a four wheel drive pick up (Ranger) with a stick shift. I would never, ever, lend it, though I did provide freight service for friends on more than one occasion. The Tappet Brothers (Car Talk Hosts) said that if you have a pick up people will want to borrow it or ask for help moving. True.
I do miss my Ranger.

Yes, having a pick-up makes you a popular guy. The first vehicle I bought was a pick-up that had the stick shift on the steering column. I bought it because I had a horse. Otherwise I would have gotten a sports car.

I know someone with a nicely restored 1958 Chevy pickup, with it's original drivetrain, 283 with 3 on the tree. When he takes it to the car shows he puts a huge plaque in the bed saying "Yes it's my truck. NO, I WILL NOT HELP YOU MOVE"π

"...if you have a pick up people will want to borrow it or ask for help moving." Just post a rate card on the side of your truck explaining the charges for hiring your truck. I find that works well to drive off the freeloaders. Especially the upfront $2000 damage deposit ...π
