SAN ANTONIO – A suspected carjacker was unable to drive a stick shift and was shot by the victim while trying to flee early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of Observation Drive, not far from Loop 410 and Marbach Road on the city’s far West Side.
According to police, a carjacker had stolen a vehicle and had to ditch it a few feet away because he couldn’t drive the standard transmission.
Police said while the man ran to another suspect’s vehicle, the victim pulled out a gun and started shooting at them. That’s when, police say, the suspect in the passenger seat was grazed in the head by a bullet that went through the headrest of the car.
SAPD said the suspect eventually made it home, where their family called emergency crews. The man was taken by EMS to University Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say the suspected carjacker left behind his own vehicle at the scene.
Police did not say what charges the man potentially faces.
In many states the situation would be dicey for the owner of the stickshift because the thief was running away. I hope that is not the case for this one, though. The criminal class must be given an understanding that certain types of crime are dangerous to their lives. I would love to hear that the staff of an upscale department store has shot four or five of the mob plundering the store and that no charges are appropriate against the clerks. If that were to happen twice in two different cities, it could just end the mob looting phenomenon.
My ‘19 was an access cab with the 6ft bed. It was exactly what I wanted. I even took a 300 mile Greyhound bus ride to pick it up. I’m driving 30,000 miles a year now which was totally unforeseen when I bought the truck. It’s been a real thrill going from 20 mpg to 40+ but I miss the fun of driving. You’d be surprised what your truck is worth. I received $28,000 legit trade value with over 90,000 miles in it. List on my Taco was $34,500. I paid $31,000.
My first car was a VW Beetle. So fun to drive.
I understand that well.
They are forcing real incomes down while they are shutting down real cars so the EVs will be for the elite and the res of us will have to be satisfied with bicycles, either pedal or electric. Now they say we should all ride buses but with fifteen minute cities and a ban on travel out of one’s self contained prison neighborhood buses won’t be necessary.
Had one of those too. Had a three on the tree and an ultra weird push button transmission Dodge Dart.
Tongue in cheek is lost on some people who otherwise seem intelligent.
True. I didn’t think of that.
Shooting the perp is a great ay to send a needed message to other ambitious Teens, because the perp wasn’t rendered unable to talk about his experience with his gangmates.
When we lived in NC 10 yrs., my hubs took a concealed carry permit class, and was told my his former marine/county sheriff deputy/fire arms instuctor: 1) Do not shoot anyone unless you can convince a jury of your peers that you feared for your life .. 2) Tell cops you’re too upset to talk ...3) Do Not Talk...4) Call the best defense attorney you know of.
Carjacking should be a capital offense for the same reasons that stealing horses was in past ages. A carjacker is leaving his victim at the mercy of both elements and other criminals.
Too bad one word missing from article: “dead”.
Like riding a bicycle...
Just post a rate card on the side of your truck explaining the charges for hiring your truck. I find that works well to drive off the freeloaders. Especially the upfront $2000 damage deposit ...😎
I say booby trap the cars using cell phone technology. Just make sure the phone is always in one’s pocket.
The perp was not running away. He was still committing a felony, trying to carjack another vehicle.
What is a Km and what country are you from? \s
Try being 6’4” 220 with a pick up truck. You would of thought I was advertising a free moving company when I was younger.
Every time I moved I changed countries and lh/rh drive side. So now I can shift with either hand while driving on the wrong side of the road.
LOL...I should’ve been a little choosier while selecting a rate card. I’m strictly a “miles” guy (although I’ve lived in countries that use KMs).
RE trucks... The good news is, many folks own trucks now days, plus you can rent all sorts of “hauling” conveyances. The bad news...as grandparents, our kId’s want us to babysit while THEY move, or unpack from a move. (That really isn’t bad news.)
