McCarthy spent his nine months as speaker dancing on a knife edge of functionality and paralysis, constantly struggling to balance the demands of his aggressive right flank and the necessity of dealing with a Senate and a White House run by Democrats.
“So you get more conservative and that attracts more liberals to work with you on consensus policy?” Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said of the House in jest. “I haven’t read that book.”
Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., said the eight rebels who ousted McCarthy, as well as others in the House GOP, should remember who controls the rest of the government.
“To keep the government funded or to do anything consequential around here, they’re going to have to get Democrats. So that’s the dilemma they have. And as they select a speaker, I think they’re going to have to think through that,” Thune said.
“I don’t know how these eight people are going to play into the speaker’s race or what impact they might have,” he said. “But at the end of the day, whoever is leading the House on the Republican side is going to have to figure out how to do basic things.”

Newsflash, Senators!! We already have a mechanism for dealing with differences between bodies with vastly different policy views. It's called a conference committee.
Ya see, Senators (explaining legislative process to US Senators), one body passed a bill and the other body passed a bill and then the two bodies battle it out in a conference. That's how we did things in the pre-omnibus/minibus/continuing resolution days.
But that takes too much work and gets in the way of all of your recesses.
It would probably be best for the GOP to nominate a “moderate” who would be willing to “work across the aisle” on bipartisan issues. Maybe someone such as Nancy Pelosi. Or, if she is considered too old for the position, maybe a moderate but young firebrand such as AOC. Then maybe Congress could get on with the business of government and saving our Democracy!
I don’t care about consensus. Pass our agenda and let the Senate kill it. Show some actual balls for a change.

Yup. Pass funding bills that cut spending. Give the Senate a Hobbson's Choice. You can have either funding with budget cuts, or reject the bills and have no money at all.
What would be excellent is if we had the same rule, that Gaetz used in the house, for the Senate to oust RINO McConnell.
The Senate needs to do their own job and stop worrying about the House.

I see no dilemma. No one has “to figure out how to do basic things”. They have the power of the purse. The biggest hammer you can get. Grow a pair and use it to bludgeon these idiots on both sides into submission.

I guess once the gravy train gets turned on it becomes an addictive drug. All the more reason for term limits.
All Matt Gaetz ask for was regular order on budgeting and appropriations. Right out of the gate, McCarthy gave up the debt ceiling through the end of Biden’s term and followed up by passing a stop gap CR with Democrats.
He made a commitment, made precious little effort to deliver and he got fired. I’ve fired people for that in the private sector many times. We need much more of this accountability, not less.
The current (and past 30 + years) has NOT worked.
We have nothing to lose at this point. Clearly the “governing class” does not listen to us. Oh gee, did we upset the lobbyists’ plans?

Sen Thune is the poster child for a defeatist attitude. He’s very insistent that the republicans must bow to the deluded wishes of the democrats or the government collapses.
How about demanding the democrats do some compromising for a change or THEY will be the ones sending their union buddies home without pay.

$C million for...
If the Democrats don’t go along, programs A, B, C won’t get funded.
The numbers may not be what the Democrats want, but federal dollars with the exception of the DoD, Medicare and Social Security almost invariably predominately help Democrats.
Joe Biden’s team is rapidly running the DoD into ruin. I personally would cut the DoD to under $100 billion annually. The Founding Fathers knew the danger of standing armies.
