Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has called on his fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives to abolish the rule that allows a single member to file a “motion to vacate the chair,” claiming that it makes the Speaker’s job “near impossible.”

“I’d like to start by thanking Speaker McCarthy for his service. We had a great personal relationship trying to lead two very different parts of the American government. I think he has much to be proud of. We avoided a government shutdown. We did the inevitable with regard to the debt ceiling,” said McConnell.

When the MINORITY leader of the Senate (Lords in their own minds) comments on business in the House (the Commons, in parliamentary parlance) a short, sharp, shock to His Lordship should follow.

On the contrary, we need a motion to vacate the senate minority leader.

At this point what difference does it make?

Dems probably saw McCarthy betrayed his own party. Thus, couldn’t be trusted to not betray them sometime down the road.

Sucks to be a proven liar and traitor — nobody in their right minds would expect them to follow through on negotiated deals.

The neocon military industrial graveyard train has been derailed. To see this all one has to do is look at Ukraine’s panicking at extreme levels

Imagine if there was a similar “Motion to Vacate” rule for the President of for the United States... Any President Dem or Rep would be dismissed non-stop! With a divided America as it is right now, the executive branch of governement would become ungovernable.

A republican form of government is not a pure democracy.

"A republican form of government is one "in which the laws of the community are made by their representatives, freely chosen by the people." - Senator Jacob Howard of Michigan.

A pure democracy is government in which the power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives. IMHO - another definition of pure democracy is mob rule.

I'm no fan of Kevin McCarthy but I question a House rule (motion to vacate) that allows a tiny minority (8) of republican representatives to remove the sitting republican Speaker. The reality is that democrats, who voted in-mass to remove McCarthy, removed McCarthy. Going forward, if there is no change to the 'motion to vacate' rule, I fear that any time a minority of republicans wishes to remove the republican Speaker, they can do so with the help of a majority of democrats.

This is what I would describe as unintended consequences.

It took McCarthy many, many votes to become speaker in the first place. His job security was tenuous at best. He did work hard enough, showed mo results and did not get a good mid-year review from his bosses so he got canned.

This has happened to millions of other Americans. What is the big deal?
