Kevin McCarthy failed in an initial vote to block an effort to oust him by Rep. Matt Gaetz, putting his position as House speaker in peril.
Gaetz’s "motion to vacate" the speakership will now head for an official vote.
To prevail, McCarthy or his foes will need a majority of those voting, not just Republicans. Typically Republicans can lose no more than four GOP votes on party-line votes when all members are present. Democratic leaders recommended Tuesday that colleagues vote against saving McCarthy.
And you’re a RINO and part of the problem of this party and Free Republic. Consider leaving.
Scalise. Lee Zeldin if we’re talking about folks outside the walls of Congress.
Products of modern culture!
I was for the plan to reduce spending 8%, that got shot down because it wasn’t perfect, which it was not.
Which led to the CR that didn’t reduce spending.
It is a lot easier to be a minority back-bencher casting purity votes, if you don’t actually have to accomplish anything.
Where is the plan with any chance of actual success to elect enough members of the house and senate to implement the full set of cuts that this group supposedly wants?
The current plan seems to be to lose the house to the democrats, let them double spending again, and then argue in 2 years about whether we can cut THAT by 10%.
Seems like a bad deal all around.
And yes, Trump could have vetoed something, or he could have actually not asked for more money without offsets, in the rare cases republicans tried to cut or slow increases. Some of these requests were certainly supported by conservatives, like border wall money, but Trump didn’t ask for any cuts to pay for it.
I don’t know where this idea that Trump tried to cut the budget comes from.

We definitely are not winning.
I postulate that it is because Trump was right, and his supporters got tired of winning, and don’t really want to win anymore, as was seen in picks for candidates in 2020 and 2022, losing a dozen or more winnable races.
Some people would rather lose for purity, even if it makes a disastrous situation worse.
Nobody is arguing for "perfect" and "purity". That's a ridiculous straw man you set up.
8% spending reduction from what number?
Do you know how much the budget has gone up in '21, '22 and '23?
Remember all of those trillions in wasteful spending increases over the last three years. They are all factored into to the baseline from where those 8% cuts would have been made.
All of those trillions in green new deal spending and covid stimulus packages are renewed automatically each year and are now part of the baseline.
