From 77-78, I participated in Nuclear Surety Inspections at a local remote site, but in a tangential way. At my battery, we assembled a 40 man platoon, to include issuing live ammunition.

The outbriefings were attended by the entire chain of command, all the way up to the Deputy CG of 32nd AADCOM. He also had a role: in the rare event that the battery failed, he would fire the entire chain of command up through the Group Commander.

The pucker factor in the briefing room was palpable.

“The pucker factor in the briefing room was palpable.”

Used sparingly, fear is a fantastic motivator.
