Why slam a door shut if there's nothing to be gained by doing so?
Which waffling voters does he expect to pick up by that statement? Any Trump haters probably already support him and voters who like Trump are turned off.
His statement sounds like personal animus toward Trump and exasperation that he is polling so poorly.
