Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) introduced legislation Thursday that would eliminate federal tax credits for electric vehicles, the latest in a series of Republican salvos against EV technology.
Vance’s bill, first reported by The Daily Caller, would undo several EV credits created or broadened under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the 2022 climate and infrastructure law.
It would also establish a new $7,500 tax credit specifically for American-made gas-powered vehicles.

Tax credit is that a Chinese Communist Party idea ?
“It would also establish a new $7,500 tax credit specifically for American-made gas-powered vehicles.”
I’m ok with American-made, as long as it’s not required to be union-made.
Typical Republican. Why not just let the market work its magic.
I say get rid of the EV tax credit and don’t replace it with a gas car tax credit or any other subsidy for anything.
Typical politician. Make a new rule or law. Why not just let it go at eliminating the tax credit for EV and erase a few more laws from the books at the same time. Let the market and the people decide what they want. Protect from abuse but don’t promote directions.

Honestly, I thought Vance was smarter than that.
The tax credit is not working , sales suck
Typical politician. This is just a meaningless stunt that has no chance of going anywhere. Even discussing, much less sweating, the details only encourages dopes like this to keep at it.
Although, to be fair to Vance, for a number of years now, meaningless stunts is all that GOP, Inc. has been good for.
Just as meaningless as the theatrical dressing downs of witnesses who deserve much more abuse. Gowdy, Issa, Jordan, even Kennedy... all amount to sound and fury signifying nothing. Some hope that they may so enrage the witnesses they will slip up or do something stupid. Mostly they just smile their stupid smiles knowing that maybe the shoe will return to the other foot and that no harm will come to them. It is all a mockery of us and they stay in power and continue to become richer.
Eliminate federal TAX BREAKS favoring EVs is a “Republican salvo against EV technology”???
No, it’s an effort to get the government to stop distorting the free marketplace in favor of the Dems pet project. Republicans have nothing against “EV technolog,” but it has to work, be reliable, be affordable, be environmentally clean, not enrich China, and stand on its own two legs in the marketplace.
So far EVs have failed on all those metrics.
Yes. Let the market decide without any government interference in it.
‘Honestly, I thought Vance was smarter than that.”
He knows it’ll never pass, but it’s a clever stratagem. It’ll force Dems to justify their continued extravagant tax breaks for EVs which are sold to rich people.
Vance is a phony - would never have even been a candidate if Peter Thiel hadn’t wanted to own a Senator.
Turn the Keystone pipe line back on.
