The 21 “rebels” as the MSM and GOPe refers to them are those who expected McCarthy to hold to his promises and he has not.
This is far bigger than this CR for the budget.... there is a laundry list of pledges made that fell by the wayside once again and if you listen to those who are upset they sounds a lot like the average freeper in their concerns.
The media always paints a picture of “chaos” with conservatives in congress to deflect from how broken the system is. They laud Pelosi and her iron-grip on her caucus as if it were a virtue ignoring the exploding deficits and spending that is crushing poor Americans more than anyone through inflation.
This is politics..... McCarthy will try to personalize it but if you listen to the complaints of Gaetz, Burchette, Green, Biggs, and others it has very little to do with personality and more to do with the future of my children and grandchildren.
Gaerz has long been one of my favorites.
However, in this case, he seems to have cut off his nose to spite his face.
Two reasons. Frist, the spending bill he blocked did cut spending significantly, up to 8% domestically I’ve read. That’s clearly not enough, long term, but it’s better than what we ended up with now with the CR, which is no cuts.
Second, they have as promised broken up the Omnibus bill into the different appropriations bills for each department, which is a huge win. But rather than be happy with that achievement as well, we get stuck with the CR which
Is in effect a short term Omnibus again, with no cuts.
A CR of some sort was probably a requirement, due to delays in creating those individual appropriations, but the one we had lined up had budget cuts in it, that Gaetz blocked.
