Silly Texas resident, there lies the problem, when the power goes out you should be just as miserable as your 'green energy" friends, sheesh, misery likes company and you're just a big ole party pooper! LOL, I too have gas stove, gas furnace, gas water heater and when the power goes out, which isn't very often here, but, when it does go out I can still fire up my stove and cook!
Yes. When we lose power I can cook, take a hot shower, I have firewood to cook meat, old school clotheslines to dry clothes, battery powered radios and 3 generators to keep my fridges and my window unit working. A lot of my yankee transplant neighbors have no clue how to handle 99F and 90% humidity.
I made a crude A/C unit with a fan and a bowl of ice. Got the room down to 70F. One night we had 6 adults and 3 dogs all sleeping in the one room that had some AC.
