House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) suggested the House form a bipartisan debt commission that would focus on the long-term effort to rein in government spending and bring down the national debt.
McCarthy, who is embattled in a fierce fight to avoid a government shutdown this weekend, reiterated his call for the bipartisan commission on Thursday, stating he believes there is a bipartisan plan to solve the country's debt problem.

What a joke. We do one of these about every ten years or so and absolutely nothing ever comes from it.
White House budget docs used to show 1 trillion dollar deficits for the rest of the decade. Latest shows minimum 1.5 trillion dollar deficits for the rest of the decade.
Last two years deficits have exceeded 2 trillion dollars.
a commission???? - how cowardly. That is the House’s Constitutional responsibility. I know politicians are afraid of cutting expenses and making voters unhappy, but they are sworn to do so. Get on it now!! There is no time to spare!!!

They passed the Graham Rudman act during Reagans? years and they got around it.
They also got within one vote of a balanced budget bill within the Senate when Dole was in the place. He had to vote to be able to bring it up again some later time...which never happened. If I remember Right.

The only way this ends is if the income tax is abolished and we got to a retail sales tax and under that...if the fed doesnt control inflation, the tax rate automatically reduces a certain percent’s’ to counter inflation...since it is the government who causes inflation.
We’d need something like the base closure commission — whose recommendations Congress was almost completely excluded from objecting to.

pretty typical for our quisling Speaker, the guy who controls the purse strings needs a commission to tell him how to stop spending, you can’t make this shit up.
Put me in charge as king. My comment would be look at he constitution. Note the enumeration of responsibilities of Congress. If it is not there, close it, abolish it, or just burn it to the ground. Problem solved.
This is just a trick to pass short term funding under the pretense of doing something about run away spending. Its all a ruse.
