Portland business owners and retail workers joined the organization “Enough is Enough” to release a video Thursday drawing attention to the growing crime and violence in the city’s homeless encampments.
“Enough is Enough” is a Portland-based Ballot Question Committee that launched in 2022 in opposition to several citizen initiatives led by the Maine Democratic Socialists of America (MDSA).
“Untold stories of assaults, harassment, hard drug use, human waste, and discarded needles plague the area while the city council ignores pleas for assistance,” Enough is Enough wrote in a Thursday press release.
“Many retail workers declined to speak publicly about the incidents for fear of retaliation,” the organization wrote.

No worries, maybe it’ll get somewhat cleaned up then the illegals will move in and steal the tents and food from the drug addled. Darwin beckons.
There in lies the problem. Too many too timid to speak out. Their silence signals approval.
I see much the same in public education. Many teachers, while liberals at heart, have seen that public education has spiraled too far down a dysfunctional path. But, they are too fearful to speak out against the entrenched radicals. So nothing changes.
They need to stop voting for Liberals

Like most states, it is the radical left running the cities. Get outside the cities and it is mostly conservative.

It’s interesting (and sad) to see how hopelessly naive these people are. Nothing will change without a massive and dedicated political effort. Liberals out. Conservatives in.
Let’s suppose that did happen. As soon as things improved even a little, I’m guessing those folks would start voting for liberal Democrats again.
You can fix stupid. But it’s really hard.
Nowhere does the article say what “Enough is Enough” is going to do about it. Are they going to get people to vote differently? Force politicians to get tough on drug use, eliminate drug legalization, force people into treatment or involuntary commitment, build mental hospitals, forcibly destroy the camps, make the bums hit the road, hire more police, get serious crime-fighting DAs, tell BLM to get lost, get Congress and Biden to close the border and drug flow?
WHAT are they going to do besides get their names in the papers with a few quotes? We have lots and lots of yakkety-yak, but no action. How do they say “All hat and no cattle” in Maine? All lobster traps but no lobsters?

I really enjoy listening to blue state inhabitants whine about having to eat the crap sandwich that they made.

Every demonrat politician in Oregon needs to be prosecuted and imprisoned for life.

Follow your wants = misery and death
Fulfill your needs = contentment
Drug addiction is learned behavior.
Actual social change is slow, and to get back to a Portland in which retail is safe to operate will involve a complete change in city government, city culture, and most of all the widespread, even defiant, acceptance of crime as a means of social change on the part of the people in town who consider it so. So far that looks an awful lot like a one-way street that’s coming to its logical end.
I lived in the Brunswick, Maine area from 1990-2000. Portland was on the news every day wanting so badly to be “big-time” as far as cities go. The excerpts that I listened to on the video are stuff that people can see anywhere. A few fights and some doped up homeless people?

I remember in the 90’s Portland had a heroin “epidemic”. Two people overdosed and died.
They also had a “drive by donutting” at some point in the mid 1990’s. Some kids threw a bunch of donut-holes at people waiting at a bus stop. They were never caught (swear to God).
There’s a lot more bad stuff happening in Lewiston with the Somali immigrants.
Like we all say, if you want change, make it happen. If you keep re-electing the people that are not fixing the problems, the problems will remain in order to give the politicians a means to be re-elected.
Seems we get an “enough is enough” pronouncement from the citizens of Portland at least once every week. I don’t think the local and state officials they elected agree with them.
No it doesn’t. It signals lack of fortitude and fear. Understandable since govt now punishes people who want govt to deal with the problems correctly, instead of punishing those who shine light on problems and demand govt do their jobs properly.
Glad more and more of them are starting to speak out.
