Police said a stolen Kia was used to break down the front door of a medical marijuana dispensary in the city's Wynnefield section on Tuesday night, amid multiple incidents of looting across Philadelphia.
Police leadership said the looting was committed by groups of juveniles and was unrelated to protests after a judge dismissed all charges including a murder count against Mark Dial, the officer who shot and killed Eddie Irizarry in Kensington last month.
looting-at-curaleaf-philadelphia-51st-and-wynnefield.jpg CBS NEWS PHILADELPHIA Police were called to the Curaleaf at 51st Street and City Avenue for reports of a break-in.
Our cameras saw the door broken down, scattered broken glass and multiple damaged display cases in the store.
It's not clear if anything was taken.
A Curaleaf spokesperson sent a statement saying the incident was an "urgent reminder of the industry's need to advance SAFER Banking," a bill that would give cannabis businesses the ability to use traditional banking methods.
Currently, marijuana dispensaries rely heavily on cash to conduct business, as many banks fear federal prosecution if they handle money obtained through the sale or cannabis, a Schedule 1 substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
The SAFER Banking Act passed in a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Wednesday.
The dispensary was temporarily closed Wednesday while Curaleaf's security and retail teams assess the damage, according to the statement.
Maybe, it was just oregano.
A Kia? Really? Come on, medical marijuana dispensary guys. Invest in a few steel or concrete posts. They’re not that expensive. And since you are in Philadelphia, you’ll thank me sooner than later.
Animals have nothing to lose.

Except their lives. And their souls.
Attractive nuisance.
🤣🤣🤣
I can tell you this wouldn’t a happened in Tulsa.
*Tulsa King humor for those unfamiliar*
Last I saw-40something out of 50something arrested were adults-while team fake narrative continues to blame kids.
I’m surprised more dispensaries aren’t getting hit around the country
Or do we just not hear about them? D
Those are “bollards”...
Somebody needs to manufacture FAKE marijuana to put in display cases before closing.
Since it looks like the nestings of rodents, that shouldn’t be difficult.
People need to self-medicate, yo.
The thief was probably a good Samaritan, passing out the pot in order to mellow the unruly folks.
“Scholarly teens…”
The looting I saw on tv should have been met with police and drawn guns.
When/if my kids ever got out of control, it would only be 1 time. It is inexcusable and not tolerated. Either get a squad out and take them in, or fire a few blanks to get their attention. It was way too easy for them to take and destroy.
There was no problem Jan 6.. Getting people in jail.. So why let those untrained spoiled thieves get by.
As the article indicates - did you read it? - the breakin was likely in search of the cash that federal law prohibits cannabis businesses from depositing in a bank.
That might help.
What would probably work better is getting some of those thingies that have FRONT TOWARD ENEMY embossed and wiring them up plainly visible just inside the doors and windows. A nice un-Racciss touch would be painting them with BLM colors just for fun.
You might get one window or door broken but it's almost guaranteed there won't be a second.
When Government gets involved, pot dispensaries become corrupted:
Your link has nothing to do with corruption of dispensaries. Re-read for comprehension.
Summed up in the last sentence:
FTA:
“Since its creation in 2017, THE CANNABIS CONTROL COMMISSION has faced what sometimes feels like an endless stream of scandals,”
