The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once (nearly) said: “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single dash line”.
Recent Chinese activities in the South China Sea and Beijing’s claims of “indisputable sovereignty” inside the nine-dash line of China’s unilateral making show every sign of them taking this mantra seriously.
The latest Chinese stunt was to place a buoyed net around the Scarborough shoal to prevent Filipino fishing there. Almost immediately the Philippine coast guard dismantled it but the minute their fishing boats returned they were aggressively intercepted by the Chinese Coast Guard.
In terms of violating internationally recognised laws this is the equivalent of the Danes coming across to the Dogger Bank in the North Sea, throwing a net barrier around it and claiming we, the Dutch and the Germans were no longer allowed to fish there. It would be absurd if it wasn’t so serious.

“If the US decides to cut off their access to oil from the Middle East, resources from Africa, or food from wherever, China will be in real trouble. It would not be hard for us, and would not likely involve a lot of actual naval battles. China is heavily dependent on both import and export and they are vulnerable in this way.”
You seem to have forgotten... or are ignoring... the fact that the ChiComs know they have friends and cohorts running and ruining America currently. There is no way the Obiden regime will go up against China. If anything, they’ll be working behind the scenes to make shock-sure that America loses....again and still.
China has large and expanding pipeline capacity with their friendly neighbor, the second largest oil exporter in the world. As for cutting them off from trade with the rest of the world, good luck. I suspect the Chinese leaders can read a map as well as westerners can.
I'm sure our Navy already has warhead-armed underwater and aerial drones by the millions...as does China. And I presume we have already developed means for defending our ships against the enemy's drones.
I'll bet some new technologies are absolutely mind-blowing.
“Land grab...see Snatch”, (Hedly Lamar).
China has large and expanding pipeline capacity with their friendly neighbor,
—
China does not have any friendly neighbors, they have politicians they have bribed and as for pipelines, they would not last a day in a real hot war.
China has geography against her. She is surrounded by Japan, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and Australia, none of which like China and all have the ability to use land base planes against shipping.
China is a bully, they use money (to bribe the leader, and buy influence) and threats against those that don’t bend to their wills (as a small example look what they have done to Hollywood.)
The only way they can project power is by money, and that money comes from the west. A real shooting war would cut off that money.
The coast off of China is relatively shallow (which is why they want Taiwan access to deep water). Their Navy would be on the bottom of the ocean soon after a real war began, and to do this our Navy dose not need to anywhere near China or their Navy.
No, I don’t discount a war may not happen, I discount their ability to win such a war (unless among the hundred of thousands invaders crossing our borders have among them Chinese military prepared to attack us from within).
But then, these are just opinions based on what I have read.
As the Father of an active duty Sailor, I can assure you that “wokeism” has not infected a majority of the Fleet. While those at the top may be woke, the majority of Fleet Sailors just ignore that nonsense.
“the US Navy could be very vulnerable trying to fight back in that situation, unless they combined forces with other nations in the area, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines.”
Bingo. This is more a job for a coalition not just one nation and it is closer to their backyard.
grow up?
what was wrong with what I wrote?
“Regarding the Chinese threat in that sea, IMO it’s very real.”
yes, the threat is very real. the chinese are very emboldened right now and theres certainly a window of opportunity they have now with the incompetency of the leaders of the western world at the moment
Nevertheless, the "woke" leadership must have weakened the military seriously and causes serious morale and recruitment problems.
I am a former US Army officer. It would have been severely demoralizing for me.
Praise, prayers, gratitude, and ovations to your Sailor and all his comrades--and to you!
Thank you for your kind words, Sir. As a former Army Combat Medic, the kid being a Sailor makes the Army Navy game more interesting lol....
I’m a physician. Technically I joined the Army voluntarily, but in fact it was a legal requirement. To my surprise, I loved the Army! One of my regrets is that I didn’t stay in the Army and fulfill a career there.
