Poland may attempt to extradite the 98-year-old former soldier who fought for the Nazis during World War II and was accidentally honored by Canada's parliament last week, the CBC reports.
Canadian Speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota, introduced Yaroslav Hunka following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address to parliament. Rota referred to Hunka as a "Ukrainian hero and a Canadian hero," and said, "we thank him for his service."
Media outlets later reported that Hunka fought for the Nazi military unit known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division, and Rota apologized for his remarks and for inviting Hunka, who lives in Canada and is a constituent of Rota's.

Yes. It’s idiocy.
But it’s really just crap thrown out by propagandists.
True. And some of them joined the Red Army and participated in the atrocities along the way. But you never hear of any former Red Army members being prosecuted for anything, Jew or gentile.
In politics, there are no accidents.
The Canadian Parliament and PM Trudeau were honoring someone for their work WHILE THEY WERE STILL NAZIS.
The losers don’t get to try the winners, My Friend. I read that from Tom Anderson the Editor of Farm and Ranch magazine long ago.
There is precedence for deportation, for even such a "kid."
"John Demjanjuk (born Ivan Mykolaiovych Demjanjuk; Ukrainian: Іван Миколайович Дем'янюк; 3 April 1920 – 17 March 2012) was a Ukrainian-American who served as a Trawniki man and Nazi camp guard at Sobibor extermination camp, Majdanek, and Flossenbürg.[2] Demjanjuk became the center of global media attention in the 1980s, when he was tried and convicted in Israel after being misidentified as Ivan the Terrible, a notoriously cruel watchman at Treblinka extermination camp. In 1993 the verdict was overturned. Shortly before his death, he was tried and convicted in Germany as an accessory to 28,060 murders at Sobibor."Besides, just a "kid" at sixteen is a "man" of enlistment age a year later, in many branches of our own military.
It is additionally interesting that Wiki speaks of Demjanjuk as both a "Ukrainian-American" in one paragraph and then being born in the "Soviet Union" in another. Because both are correct.
"Hunka as a 'Ukrainian hero and a Canadian hero' can also be spoken of a "just a kid" when he joined the Waffen SS, so it's all a matter of words, until reality sets in. Personally I hope that Poland presses for 1) deportation of Hunka, and 2) presses forward with claims of greater reparations from Germany.
At the end of the war, the Red Army handed the French that fought for the Germans and surrendered to them over to the French. Who promptly shot them.
I do recall reading that after the USSR retook territory many Ukrainians were sent WAY East ie Siberia, because of support to Germany.
Thank you for stating the obvious, but therein lies the problem. 80 years later it is not possible to know what his level of participation was at 16 unless he had a long history of bragging about it that was documented. Obviously, he does not.
The crimes you speak of are horrible and heinous and unfortunately similar to activities that have been taking place in Ukraine by people from both sides of the current conflict. This includes people who are being supported by the taxpayers of the United States. These are the crimes that virtue signaling do-gooders such as yourself should be focusing on... These are the crimes that have a chance of being prosecuted and maybe even prevented NOW. Instead, we have a whole cabal of people cheering them on.
About a month ago, my wife and I met a group of boys aged 15 to 17 who were being sheltered by a local Ukrainian church. They had been sent abroad by their families after other boys that these kids knew were kidnapped by USA supported Ukrainian authorities at school and off the streets and used as cannon fodder in the “Spring counter-offensive”. None of the boys we met knew if they would ever see their families again. Some of their friends had already been killed. If these kids are found after overstaying their visas they will be immediately sent back to Ukraine unlike the 35,000,000 or more other illegal aliens currently residing here.
These boys are the same age as the 98-year-old was when his home was captured by the Germans.
From the Encyclopedia Britanica:
“How many Ukrainians died because of Stalin?”
“3.9 million Ukrainians”
“The result of Stalin's campaign was a catastrophe. In spring 1933 death rates in Ukraine spiked. Between 1931 and 1934 at least 5 million people perished of hunger all across the U.S.S.R. Among them, according to a study conducted by a team of Ukrainian demographers, were at least 3.9 million Ukrainians”
It has been estimated by many that Stalin may have been responsible the deaths of 20 million or more people. He truly was a monster and this is why so many Ukrainians welcomed the Germans. They didn't think that things could get any worse.
Thank you for being polite and courteous and as in your next to last paragraph, informative. If the truth was known, I was off base in my response to you. I make an attempt not to respond to threads such as that, but am not always successful.
Again thanks. God Bless you.
Yes, there is not enough waste and stupidity going on in the world right now. Let's go ahead and start a new initiative hunting down 98 year olds who might have done something wrong more than 80 year ago. Guess who else the woke culture you support wants to go after? That is right every white guy in the country over the age of 40 who they believe they can prove are all “racists”. In their minds we are all NAZIs... even virtue signaling simpletons. /s
You are likely a better person than I am.
Supposedly clever, but there is no evidence of "woke" in my comment # 47.
Nice to see you finding a way to excuse Canada's "woke" Liberal Party, though.
Interesting rebuttal. Wokeness is steeped in political correctness and punishing those assumed to be guilty of something/anything that caused harm or even hurt feelings from long ago. Maybe you need to look in the mirror?
Very sloppy conflation of two categories. They are not "adjacent" categories nor synonymous. Political correctness is about politics and political enforcement. Prosecuting -- which is not necessarily punishing -- some one of alleged crime without a statute of limitations is not politically correct, nor enforcement of any political stance per se.
Demjanjuk, as a precedent, was acquitted in Israel and returned to the US, only to be sent to Germany where is was convicted.
---- "Maybe you need to look in the mirror?" A better "look" would be into precedents, history and documented information.
What a relief that who knows how many $Millions of taxpayer dollars were spent trying to punish someone who was originally mistaken for someone else. But then was sent to two other countries where Israelis let him off but politically correct Germans sent him to prison where he died. Of course, the minor discrepancy in precedents is that this guy was a prison guard maybe and not an anti-aircraft gunner.
Yes, you write well, and I congratulate you for that but that does not do a great job of covering for your lawyerly virtue signaling wokeness.
Like some others Freepers, you play judge and jury while citing no references or providing URLs to support your opinions. There remains nothing woke about which I wrote -- with citations and references.
Congratulations for declaring yourself winner in a discussion in which there is no judge and no jury. Obviously this exchange ends here.
Don’t go away mad. There are no winners in a conversation such as this. And no URLs, citations and references were needed for what is common knowledge and opinion. I followed all that you provided, and none were truly applicable.
You are advocating for Germans to pay more money to Poland when they were occupied by the Soviet Union for decades longer which almost certainly caused more damage to their society. At this point you are just rolling along with whatever point of view is currently in vogue or meets some type of weird agenda. Are you also in favor of reparations for every group that claims victimhood in the United States?
