I remember when a busload of Americans headed out from Iraq on R&R would pull up at the hotel in Dubai, (one of our pass-through spots) the hookers would swarm the guys as we all headed into the hotel to check in. They were all pretty much Russians and Ukrainians. There were some Chinese ones, but they tended to hang out in the hotel bar or restaurants and do their work there.
All of the bar staff at the hotel we used in Amman, Jordan were Ukrainian women. They were known to do “side work” with the guys. We all knew not to say much in that bar because anything you might say could get completely twisted and gossiped back to other Ukrainians working in theater. It happened to a couple of the guys I worked with. The Ukes had a whole little network going on over there.
