The UN is out of control. Too many people attending fancy conferences at luxe resorts with the best dining doing all this crap. These people produce nothing of value to mankind.
Here’s what happens: The UN and it’s many agencies have 2 pay scales, one for locals, and one for internationals. In developing countries, they hire the best local talent at multiples of local wages rates. After a while, the best of these people see they can earn another 5x or more working in another country, with all expenses paid and other benefits. So the UN sucks the best talent out of needy country and puts it in another needy country. These people care only for themselves and of course want to stay in the lucrative UN system.
When I visited the ILO HQ in Geneva in 2005, they were excited I was an American. Apparently they want to try to hire staff according to the percentage of UN budget (or maybe ILO budget) paid by each country. The US should be 25-40% or maybe more, but is vastly under represented.
