In a 58-2 vote, the Republican Party of Texas approved a resolution calling on Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan to resign.
The resolution was approved during the State Republican Executive Committee meeting in Corpus Christi on Saturday, and cites Phelan’s embrace of the failed impeachment against Attorney General Ken Paxton as well as his appointment of Democrats to leadership positions:
WHEREAS, Speaker Dade Phelan voted for the impeachment of Attorney General Warren Kenneth Paxton and through his leadership team pressured other House members to vote for the impeachment as well, and continues to defend this action....;
WHEREAS, Speaker Dade Phelan appointed nine (9) Democrats to chair important legislative committees, in direct defiance of the wishes of Republican voters and the Legislative Priorities of the Republican Party of Texas; and
[snip]
WHEREAS, new leadership is needed in the House of Representatives for the upcoming special session, and potential subsequent special sessions, to ensure that conservative priorities are achieved and members are no longer pressured to act and vote contrary to the platform, principles, and priorities of the Party they represent and its voters; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Party of Texas calls on Speaker Dade Phelan to step down from his leadership role as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and to allow a new Speaker to be elected after a caucus vote in accordance with the Republican Party of Texas Platform; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that should Speaker Dade Phelan fail to step down from the Speaker chair for this upcoming special session, the Republican representatives should vote to vacate the chair and allow for a new Speaker who has pledged to honor and support the priorities and principles of the Republican Party to be elected.

why Phelan appointed 9 Democrats
There is some tradition to this. Trend of democrat appointments is down?
I guess it is a decison of all out war, and enough of this “getting along”.
It is not an easy decision and has long term effects. What does history teach us?
Speaker Dade Phelan appointed nine (9) Democrats to chair important legislative committees, in direct defiance of the wishes of Republican voters and the Legislative Priorities of the Republican Party of Texas;
that should be enough right there...
48 years old. He has a future doing something. Don’t know what it is but he certainly wasn’t afraid. He should pay a high price-whatever it is.
“He should pay a high price-whatever it is.”
And the RINO supporters who enabled Phelan.
Root and branch.
He needs to be impeached for being drunk on the house floor.

If he wasn’t drunk, he needs to be impeached for being a clown.
Hey Phelan, I bet that you now understand more fully the expression: “When you come at the king, you best not miss”.
Every constituent in a Republican district needs to send an email to the representative of that district: “We’re watching your vote on Phelan. Deliver or be ousted.”
“What I do not understand is why Phelan appointed 9 Democrats to chair committees when the GOP has a huge majority in the House.”

Over the decades and unlike the U.S. Congress, the tradition in the Texas House has been to assign the committee chairs in rough proportion to the party makeup of the State House from the previous election. So if Democrats hold about 35% of the house seats, they would expect to receive 35% of the committee chair assignments.
At the 2022 Texas Republican State Convention, the delegates passed a resolution instructing the House Speaker to appoint no Democrat Committee chairs. Dade Phelan chose to ignore this resolution in favor of the long standing tradition. As an aside, Democrats were instrumental in getting Dade Phelan elected to the Speaker position, as the rule for electing the Speaker will inevitably lead to a moderate Speaker being elected.
In the Senate, Dan Patrick only appointed a single Democrat to chair a committee (John Whitmire), who had a fairly reasonable record on criminal justice through the years (his committee).
“...appointed nine (9) Democrats to chair important legislative committees, in direct defiance of the wishes of Republican voters and the Legislative Priorities of the Republican Party of Texas”
Speaks loudly.
But doesn’t tell anyone anything. It becomes a question of politics when anyone starts speaking for the voters of a state without asking them and showing the results. We do not know who the 9 appointees are, what they do, what their experience is or even their outlook on their party stance. This is just a hit piece if this is supposed to be an all encompassing report card for what he has done.
They can handle their politics how they want in the state, but the minute they take the action as a party endeavor reflecting so many voters without anything to show the support, they are disenfranchising the will of the voters. This is the opposite of catching a real world action cold like with Bill when he lied to congress yet he remained in office. Let the total information come out before the sentence is applied. In the US, that’s the way things are supposed to be done. People are not punished this way. This is cattle being forced to stampede.

I’m a registered TX voter….I’m not falling for this “bait and switch” with in the Republican House of representatives.

He is from an extremely wealthy, well- placed family in the Beaumont area with powerful connections throughout the region and beyond.
That POS needs to go.
If you haven’t watched the Turcker Paxton interview, plz do so, it’s a freaking eye opener.
Yes!
Phelan=rino.
...by the end of the day.
No, no. Impeach with extreme prejudice. Walk him out back of the capital and hand him a pistol. Let nature take its course.
It began in the Senate trial of Paxton where they found NO EVIDENCE presented by the Legislature to support.
Fatal Error. (Treason)
He is toast. Nothing could be more clear.
Phelan was defiant when he saw the total acquittal vote.
He did not appear drunk then, but he may stay that way now.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was totally fair in all aspects of running the “unnecessary” trial.
Not one of the 16 charges passed the vote.
This was dirty politics at some of it’s worst.
Yes, Texas politics has a history of being a blood sport.
There is a good book in my library that documents some of it: “Money, Marbles and Chaulk”
Check his bank account.
‘Nuff said.

He has the stench of Bush/Rove corruption.
“Well, the issue will be who will be the replacement? Another fake Republican that conspires with the Rats like Phelan and Speakers before him, or, will we actually have a real Republican Speaker for the first time.”

That the question, indeed. Is Phelan now considered a failure so they need another pretend conservative to carry on their mission of working with the left to thwart conservatives?
