The best way to avoid all respiratory disease is pretty simple... Stay away from hospitals, nursing homes and schools. That’s where all the bugs are.
Plus any 'mandatory' places with queue's - like grocery stores, post offices. Any place where people HAVE to go to get 'must-do' things done. Actively ill people will justify their mingling because they 'have to...'.

There was research that repetitive low exposure was helpful in becoming immune.
Walking past someone with a cold, getting a low dosage leads to the herd immunity. But this was quickly forgotten.
