As usual VDH is quite good at identifying problems. Sure would be nice if he had a solution or two to toss out there.

Breath the wrath of God on all RINOs.
There is a solution, but none dare speak its name.
Mao got one thing right after slaughtering tens of millions of his countrymen using “planned” starvation.
As you will recall I’m sure, Mao was quoted as saying something like ...”political power comes out of the end of a gun barrel”.
The day will come that The Left lines up on one side of the Rubicon and The Right lines up on the other side. That’s the only SURE solution.
It's becoming apparent that one of the only non-violent solutions is to use the power of the purse that we have as consumers.
No cable TV (read books, find free entertainment / movies etc. on the internet or the local library, get your information from multiple sources and vet everything); treat every product like Bud Lite and every producer like Anheuser-Busch (don't buy from those who want to destroy your way of life); don't use contractors, service providers, or go to restaurants who use illegal employees (tell them up front that you want legal workers, and that not doing so is illegal, a violation of your contract/agreement with them and a reason to withhold payment); home school; etc.
Remember "Dirty Harry", remember the theme of the movies? Nothing that provoked those scripts or the "Death Wish" series or any other of the same ilk has changed for the better. It has all gotten worse.
Same goes for justice in the election process. When the election hangs in the balance and time is of the essence investigation, trial and correction are only years away.
So far as I can see the experiment of self-governance has not worked. It lacks the self-discipline necessary for success. The best form of governance is a benevolent dictatorship. Singapore once had that and ran very well.
Tytler was right: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury."
So was Franklin: in 1787, Franklin was asked what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer: "A republic, if you can keep it."
So was Jefferson: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure."
My sister and I were discussing the young cretins who drove over the retired cop on a bicycle. She asked what I thought our Dad would have done if one of us had done such a thing. If he did not meet out justice himself in his rage he would have taken us to be arrested, tried, convicted and punished. He would have stood with us the whole time, he would have made no excuses for us, he would have wondered where and how and why he had failed to raise us better, he would have been disappointed in us and he would have wept bitterly the whole time. If we had two brain cells to rub together we would have expected nothing else.
I repeat Paul Harvey: "Self-government without self-discipline will not work." Our experiment in this Republic relied on the success of self-discipline to preserve it. We failed. We failed just as people do to save their own souls in the God given right to exercise free-will. This nation was founded on that God given principle. What they got wrong though was how failure to exercise self-determination well, wisely and rightly was dealt with by God. Read Deuteronomy and Joshua to find out... clue, He punished them to teach them a lesson when they got off course. We have been off course for a very long time now.
