The Canadian parliament, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have been reported to have given a standing ovation to a reported former member of a Nazi military division.
Following addresses to the parliament in Ottowa on Friday from both Trudeau and Zelensky, the Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota prompted a standing ovation as he honoured a “veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today even at his age of 98.”

It’s not just the likeness. There is much more.
that have been there for 52 years.
Oh please they fought under the Germans because they hate Russia that much. And they were right, as far as it goes, because Russia won and they were under the Iron Curtain for decades.
And no it doesn’t prove they are nazis or even that the 98 year old guy was a nazi.
But we have silly reactions here like “they’ve gone full nazi! “
Yeah by honoring a guy who fought the Russians 78 years ago.
The Nazis killed a lot of Americans some by from America many in the states went to join Hitler’s cause.
The ones that came back had off spring guess who they are now.
“ reportedly”
Snort.
He did.
Don’t really understand why a ninty eight year old veteran of WW2 would cause any outrage. Obviously if he had participated in any war crimes back then he would have been prosecuted.
To me he is just a veteran and comrade in arms that was just doing his job. The idea of a war is that you kill the other guy...but once the conflict is over most don’t carry any hatred for their enemy. Killing is your job and the circumstances of a war isolate you from any emotional strings that may normally attach for most.
I’ve been back to Vietnam several times, as I liked the weather, and I suppose I ran into folks that were probably trying to kill me back then, but like I say they were comrades in arms just doing their job and if someone gives a standing ovation to a 98-year-old vet on the other side I’d probably join in...
That is the worst case of “ moral relevancy” I remember reading on this site.
Please read about the atrocities this unit committed in Ukraine.
They didn’t just “ kill Russians’ but massacred Ukrainian Jews, Ukrainian and Polish villages in opposition to the nazis, Roma and other “ impure” races and humans.
There were more Ukrainian executioners at Babi Yar, than Germans. Yet how many Ukrainians ever faced trial for WW2 crimes? ( crickets)
Zelensky the fraud nonobservant Jew married to a Christian with his children baptized Russian orthodox, Zelensky who spoke Russian as his main language until 2019…applauded this old nazi and raised his fist with him ( the unit equivalent salute to Heil Hitler)
“ They” fought with the Germans because the nazi goal of a pure race dominating was in line with the goal of the Ukrainian OUN nationalists and its splinter nationalist group. National hero Stepan Bandera fell out with a leadership split of the nationalists groups…. spent the war as a virtual guest of the nazis in Sachsenhausen, returned after the war to lead groups committed to continue internally killing Ukrainians….purging “ communists” in Ukraine, with the support of the west.
You are looking at an old man who wore a nazi uniform, served in a nationalist nazi unit, probably killed more “racially inferior” Ukrainians than Russians….and in denial?
When they become arrogant in their power.
I don’t need to guess.
If Ukraine was a full out modern day nazi racist regime, it would be for all to see, without needing to rely on them acknowledging a 98 year old guy who fought against Russia in 1945.
You don’t have to agree with the acknowledgment but no it does not mean it’s a nazi regime in 2023.
You have no idea if the old Canadian guy killed anybody, or did anything other than peel potatoes.
Do you have any idea how many Ukrainians have been killed by Russians invading their country?
You are trying to use the fact that some guy was a member of some unit in 1944 to excuse the invasion of another country and the murder of thousands of people by Russians this year.
Do you realize how idiotic that is?
Do you always make up excuses for murderers?
That's hilarious. You are describing the experience of being held in a Nazi concentration camp as being "a virtual guest".
I wouldn't want to be a "guest" in your house.
Why don’t you enlighten us as to your conclusion after “connecting the dots.”
That seems like yet another Russian crime.
FU!!! Go fight for the Ukies if you are happy about honoring this old Nazi.
Bandera’s UPA committed brutal killings against Ukrainians that were considered to be communists. Men, women, children. The Uke nationalist-nazi purge of impure races and ethnicities continued after the war…and to this day.
Ask the Poles if Bandera was a “ hero”
