Obviously, those complaining like this is some new thing have either never served, or if they have, are being purposely obstuse and misleading.
I spent 7 years in unform in Europe, TDY’ed all over the continent—and this was post-Cold War after the Soviet Union fell. It is a thing the military does all the time.
You don’t need to make up stories to be against US military aid to Ukraine. Just say so and tell your congressperson. I do.
Did you serve in Romania, any other country in Southeastern Europe or to the continent's “High North” region that includes Scandinavian countries?
Unless it was Embassy or Consulate duty you shouldn't have been there encroaching on Russia, proving we are a threat to them.
