If the Russians had actually discovered that Germany had directly intervened in the war, they would have two options:

(1) Have Sergey Lavrov tell the world from the UN Security Council or Putin in a televised address from the Kremlin

(2) Sweep the whole thing under the rug to avoid escalation.

You know what makes no sense - having third tier Russian propaganda sources leak the news.
