Trump wants to be the 2024 nominee and believes that he is entitled to the nomination. If he came to one of the debates that would imply that other candidates have a right to try to get the nomination.

The point was that Trump will be placed in an unfair disadvantage if he attends the debates, due to the gag order. Not one of the candidates has strongly and effectively condemned the weaponized DOJ or the very corrupt Jack Smith. So far I am not convinced that these candidates would fight for us. If not them, who?
