Why is DeSantis tanking?

WHY IS DESANTIS TANKING? A new poll Wednesday from the University of New Hampshire shook up the world of political obsessives who watch each twist and turn in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. No, there was no change at the top — former President Donald Trump is still in the lead in New Hampshire, 26 points ahead of the nearest competitor. The news was that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), for a long time Trump's chief rival, has slipped to fifth place in New Hampshire, the second state to vote in the GOP primary contest.

Fifth place! How did that happen? How did DeSantis come to trail not only Trump, with 39% of the vote, but, in order, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, with 13%; former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, with 12%; and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, with 11%? DeSantis's 10% of the vote in New Hampshire puts him at what might be called the bottom of the second tier. The first tier, of course, is Trump all by himself. The second tier is the group from Ramaswamy to DeSantis. After that, the third tier is Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), with 6%, former Vice President Mike Pence, with 2%, and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, with 1% each.

The first thing to consider is whether the new Granite State poll is an outlier. The answer is, it appears not. There haven't been many polls in New Hampshire — just one so far this month, two in August, and three in July — but DeSantis has been bobbing around between 8% and 11% since the summer. Before that, in polls going back to January, he was significantly higher.

Certainly running on election integrity without being able to admit publicly that Trump won is a nonstarter. That still doesn’t explain why his downfall has been this precipitous.

Left out his excellent handling of two hurricane recoveries. Natural disasters are unexpected emergencies that require nimble response and decisive decision making and action

There are no unexpected natural disaster emergencies in Florida. The last one was the sixth hurricane and 21st tropical storm just on RDS'S watch. Knowing what to do is a minimum expectation of the governor of Florida.

Everything about RDS has been a rewrite or an exaggeration.

Remember the horrible handling of all of the hurricanes in Florida was governed By Rick Scott. Only surpassed by the way !Jeb handled them for 8 years prior....what were the names of the natural disasters again? Oh...that’s wrong, they did fine? Shocking, what aren’t they both in the white house?

Funny how all the candidates EXCEPT Trump seems to flounder around, swapping places...but always well behind Trump.

IMHO DeSantis would be in first place if Trump gets taken out by the Xiden's Dept of Injustice. DeSantis' track record as governor makes him attractive to those of us a very small minority of us who lean Trump (IMHO) if we're forced to pick somebody else.

There, corrected it for you!

He really should have waited until 2028.

I’m actually glad he didn’t wait until 2028. While it’s not possible to predict the future, there might be less scrutiny of DeSantis if he waited until 2028 and was the defacto front runner. This year he’s been exposed and we know he’ll do anything bid donors will say. He’s firmly in the Bush side of the party. I don’t forgive that. He’ll never get my vote. I really don’t want to vote for anyone that has spent his entire life as a government employee.

Right.

And the Pine Island Bridge rebuilt itself in three days. DeSantis didn't make that happen, Government built that bridge.

If he is it is more likely to be Nikki Haley than Ron DeSantis. It’s a false premise to assume it’s Trump or DeSantis. Party Bosses are much more likely to back her and the MAGA base don’t remember her as a pure Trump basher. As thar is true even Tim Scott would be better than both of them. MAGA by and large isn’t anti Scott, He hasn’t really turned on Trump(certainly not too overtly) and the party Bosses see him as one of them. Desanctimonius has made sure that MAGA isn’t on board with him and the party Bosses only like him now because they think he can peel away some of the MAGA vote.

And why are Angry Trumpers even more afraid of DeSantis the lower he falls in current polls?

No one is afraid of Ronny --- he's an unlikable ankle-biter.

And a manic depressive.

But heck, let's normalize the accomplishments of all Florida governors to be the same-old same-old... just to diminish the reputation of one of them.

If Trump is “taken out” then America is already over. A free America wouldn’t prevent Trump from running and they wouldn’t have him assassinated. The Repuke who runs an election under this scenario is scum and should be treated as such.

There’s nothing extraordinary about knowing how to handle a cleanup after a hurricane; not in the state of Florida.

But, maybe you should recommend Ron for President Trump’s first Hurricane Czar.

I would have agreed with you on this if it was earlier in the year. I think DeSantis has hurt himself, perhaps beyond redemption, by the McRomBush support he has associated himself with - as many have pointed out. People trust him less now than they did before. I wonder now if we will have a candidate that has any chance of winning if Trump is arrested and locked up. I always thought Kerri Lake has the fire that Trump seems to have but she does not have his kind of support or name recognition (and she’s running for Senate). I think you and I know there’s no political solution for our country. There may have been a spiritual one at some point in the past but I think we are beyond that now and under God’s judgement. I don’t see a turn around.

Are you suggesting that meth addict Andrew Gillum would have done just as good a job as DeSantis if there was nothing extraordinary about it?

Are you suggesting DeSantis not being a meth addict is extraordinary?

Now you're just deflecting. It was a straight-forward question that you obviously don't want to or can't answer because your position is flawed.
