Democrats Admit Defeat To GOP Sen. Tuberville In Major Reversal (Schumer calling for votes, as he could have done all along)

On Wednesday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) admitted defeat and called for a cloture vote on three military promotions being held up by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) due to the military's policy to allow service members to travel to get an abortion if it is banned in the state that they are stationed at.

"We cannot, we should not allow [the blocking of promotions] to be the case," Schumer said on the Senate floor. "So I have just filed cloture on the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the commandant of the Marine Corps, and the Army Chief of Staff. These men should have already been confirmed. They should already be serving in their new positions."

"The Senate should not have to go through procedural hoops just to please one brazen and misguided senator. But this is where we are. In the end, the Senate will overwhelmingly vote to overcome Senator Tuberville's blockade of these three nominees by voting for cloture," he continued. "Then the Senate will overwhelmingly vote to confirm them and these three honorable men will finally be able to assume their positions and the abortion policy that Senator Tuberville adheres will remain in place."

Schumer went on to explain that the votes for these three men will take place on Wednesday afternoon and if Tuberville objects, then votes will take place later on in the week.

As I've been pointing out all along: the Senate could call the roll on ANY and ALL of these promotions/nominations WHENEVER it wanted.

But Schumer didn't want it to. Because they like to do everything by unanimous consent, that is, by not having anybody vote, that is, work, because that's what a legislative body does.

All Tuberville did was deny unanimous consent...because he didn't consent.

But Schumer now whines "The Senate should not have to go through procedural hoops," that is vote.

They should have to vote on *everything* as soon as 10 or more Senators want to do so.

Every thing should have a recorded vote.

Add to that, there should be zero programs in the military and the IC that American citizens do not have full information. Eff everything classified. We are the boss. We pay for it. No more weaponization of government against the people.

Congress is, on average, very lazy and unwilling to perform their actual duties lest they be held responsible.

I told some family members the very same thing.

This is great actually. Let each one of these candidates be evaluated on their actual record instead of being promoted en masse

Congress is lazy. They don’t even write their own legislation. They let lobbyists do it for them. Then they vote.
