Remember What Barry Goldwater Said
The National Pulse ^ | September 18, 2023 | RAHEEM J. KASSAM

Posted on 09/19/2023 8:39:52 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

President Trump’s Meet the Press interview – where he decried some conservative messaging on abortion – has attracted the ire of many of the institutional, D.C. “pro lifers” who presided over no actual changes on the matter, in America, for over four decades. These people – some of whom claim America’s Founding Fathers are in hell right now – profited off it indiscriminately, but it was Trump who finally managed to bring an end to Roe v. Wade by appointing Supreme Court justices who supported his perspective: that it is a matter for the states.

Now, the same groups who cheered him on just a few weeks ago are having very public conniptions over his pro-Constitution rhetoric. Save the fact that attempting a federal abortion ban would fly in the face of the Dobbs ruling – again, returning the matter to the states – it’s also worth remembering who these people are, and who warned about them decades prior.

“Mr. Conservative” himself, Senator Barry Goldwater, fought for President Reagan’s Supreme Court justice Sandra O’Connor, despite her signaling that she would not be in favor of changes in abortion rules via the court at the time, in the summer of 1981. Goldwater delivered a speech in Congress making clear that like O’Connor, he was not “pro-abortion” but rather, understood that governing was not as simple as broad declarative positions on any one matter alone.

“The uncompromising position of these groups is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our representative system, if they gain sufficient strength,” the Arizona man said, adding:

“As it is, they are diverting us away from the vital issues that our Government needs to address. Far too much of the time of members of Congress and officials in the Executive Branch is used up dealing with special-interest groups on issues like abortion, school busing, ERA, prayer in the schools and pornography. While these are important moral issues, they are secondary right now to our national security and economic survival.”

Sound familiar? This is the mantra of those banging the drum on “woke” on repeat, while simultaneously struggling to find the time to address the plethora of other issues on America’s door step. True to form, Goldwater wasn’t decrying their perspectives, but their tactics, much like Trump on Meet the Press:

“I must make it clear that I don’t condemn these groups for what they believe. I happen to share many of the values emphasized by these organizations… Of course, the saddest part of the whole dispute was that Judge O’Connor was attacked by these religious factions for a position she doesn’t hold. She opposes abortion and said so. I firmly believe that she recognizes the authority of legislatures to regulate it.”

He was equally unequivocal in further comments made that year, as quoted by John Dean:

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”

It’s worth remembering, as these “please rush $5 to stop abortion” groups try to do to Trump what they failed to do to Justice O’Connor.

Besides, a “national ban” on abortion would be immediately replaced by and even more aggressive Democrat “total access to state-funded abortion” when they ultimately again get control of the vast, debt-fed Fed.gov deep-state.

The ONLY way forward on all issues, moral and economic, is to destroy the power of Fed.gov over states and over Americans’ lives.

It’s funny that these supposed ‘conservatives’ are only for ‘State’s Rights’ when convenient, and quite willing to use the full force of an authoritarian, centralized government when it is in their interest (just as the libs are quite willing to USE ‘State’s Rights’ when it is in their interest).

The court got it right- anything not specifically and explicitly mentioned in the Constitution is the province of the states, like it or not; the only people who disagree with this are fascists and authoritarians, regardless of what they claim to be.

while personally against abortion as I believe it’s infanticide, I have absolutely no right to tell anyone else what THEY must believe. and because I don’t want THEM doing the same to me. all the casting of pearls before swine results in is crushed pearls and lots of gorings. interesting though that as a conservative voter for a lifetime I still shake my head at the hills so many republicans are willing to die on in the face of how much more good they could do IF they would only stop FORCING their position on others. people are naturally rebellious and forcing any single issue will engage their rebelliousness but if the issue is presented as a better viable option, people DO tend to look at it and weigh it. me and wifey have a saying we live by...”you can’t TELL people what to do. they don’t listen ANYWAY.”

The Globalists who are in essence the Banking and Business leaders of the world believe in uniform laws across state lines and national boundaries.

They believe in them for the sake of a unified global economy.

Globalist Emmanuel Macron moved the abortion law marker to 14 weeks from 12 weeks in recent years hailing it was “Pro-Choice”.

Chief Justice John Roberts wanted to endorse a 15-week abortion law in Mississippi last year and have the Astroturf Conservative Media proclaim it “Pro-Life”.

But Justices Alito, Barrett, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Thomas gave the sovereign states the right to make stricter abortion laws.

Ooops. No wonder their decision was leaked in advance.

The Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling to allow states to impose strict abortion laws was a blow to globalism.

Pro aborts are out in full force. The panty wearing republican men are being forced by their aborting wives to not vote republican. It doesn’t matter what your view on abortion is. The pro aborts will not vote republican anywhere anytime. Trump is now tarred for his political career as the killer of Roe v Wade. The pro aborts in both parties will not vote for him. This affects PA as this is a pro abort state. Both Republican and democrat and has been for 50 years.

Goldwater went left on abortion, gays in the military, and all sorts of issues later in life.

Maybe Barry strayed in his later years, but at that moment when he was on the stage, he lit the fuse that the rest of us are trumpeting today. In your heart, you knew he was right.

None of this problem would exist if the Court had just decided what is and is not a human, they punted and placed their job on the individual states to decide if they should kill a fetus, not a human.

Stand by for what come next. Check out MAiD being taught in Canada today. Medical Assistance in Dieing training for doctors and nurses, until recently that was considered murder now it is just another preferred health treatment.

It’s a state issue and should remain a state issue. But some Republicans have tried to nationalize the issue and that just feeds the Dems’ strategy which is also to nationalize the issue.

Securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity does NOT include aborting our posterity.

Yes, he did lose in those 46 states and that is a lot of states to lose. But without Barry Goldwater, we don’t have a Reagan, we don’t have a Ross Perot and we don’t have a Donald Trump. Goldwater was up against the eastern liberal establishment, spearheaded by Nelson Rockefeller, which managed to cut the funds to Goldwater’s campaign. In the end there was the infamous never to be forgotten Daisy commercial. That commercial just destroyed his campaign with the atomic bomb going off in the back room in the little girl picking up Daisy. Ugly moment in American politics very very ugly. As I said before, he lit the fuse.
