And right after that in 1976 there was the Wayne Hays / Elizabeth Ray scandal.

Regarding Wilbur Mills and Fanne Foxe, here is my boilerplate that I first posted back in 2019:

Actually, there is a straight line from Bill Clinton's rise to power back to the earliest modern DC sex scandal.

In 1974, the powerful Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Wilbur Mills (D-AR) was caught with stripper Fanne Foxe (the "Tidal Basin Bombshell) when he was pulled over at 2:00am for a DUI. Mills represented Little Rock for 38 years.

Mills resigned, and Clinton buddy Jim Guy Tucker (then Arkansas Attorney General) succeeded Mills in Congress. Clinton took Tucker's seat as Attorney General. Clinton eventually became Governor, and when he became President, Tucker left Congress and became Governor after Clinton.

Remember Gary Hart who was a Senator from Colorado whose real name was Gary Hartpence I think.

He looked like a favorite to win the Democratic Nomination for POTUS in 1988, rumors were he was running around with women.

He was so arrogant, he told the reporters to follow him to prove he was not running around.

Back then the Reporters actually followed him, they caught him on a boat partying with Donna Rice, basically ended his campaign.
